We found a dead dog in our pool. I don't know how he got in as we have a fenced yard--but anyway the poor guy had already started breaking down when we got him out. Any ideas how to decontaminate the pool. Thank you.

2 gal chlorine. Aren't you glad the weather's cooling. Make sure the filter is cleaned out and have a good cleaning done by a pool service before you use it again.

It's not like its a bio-chemical that was deposited in your pool! Just empty it, scrub with bleach and refill it, if its a smaller one. If its an inground pool or the like, just drain and refill.....unless the dog decomposed in your pool, there shouldn't be much other that the "gross" factor here. Just drain & refill the pool..........
Who started breaking down--the owner? The dogs body--from decomposition?Even if the dog did start to decompose bleach should do the trick, but if you really want to know for sure the very best way to treat your pool, call a pool company and ask.

The chlorine takes care of that, you may want to up the chlorine dosage and then vacuum your pool. Don't forget to test your pool for chemicals.

super chlorinate, 4 bottles of chlorine and 2 packets of shock, after 48 hours clean the filter and balance the ph ( may take a few days because of all the chlorine) ... you should be good to go...

you can buy all sorts of pool cleaning stuff at a pool/spa supply store. I'm sure they'll have stuff for decontaminating (sp?) a pool in which something's died.
