It is my ex husband doing this. I found out about it and he has been doing this for 10 years.

You can file a report with your local police or sherriffs office. They may or may not investigate depending on how serious it is, such as is someone stealing checks or important bills to harrass you, or is someone just wrongly recieving your mail?

Send the person a certified letter with a copy of the report you filed and tell them if they keep doing it you will file a complaint in civil court to begin prosecution.

For goodness sake, move on with your life. After 10 years, you should be the one fined if you are still allowing people to contact you by mail at his address. How would anyone mailing you something still have his address as your mailing address?

Send in a change of address to the post office to get your mail forwarded to you and note everyone that actually gets forwarded from there. Then, write those people a specific letter informing them of your actual address and then let it go with your ex. Don't waste your time on trying to prove he is or is not actually opening up your mail. Just get it stopped and that way you won't have to worry about him anymore.
If he was systematically trying to intercept your mail and opening it, I would definitely have a problem with that. However, your situation almost sounds like you found out someone mailed you something to the old address and since he didn't forward it, you won't to use this to beat up on him or make a point with him. Life is too short to waste on someone that you already divorced 10 years ago.

Das Modell doesn't know what she is talking about. Once the mail is put into a mail box, it is no longer a federal issue. Most people believe that anything to do with the mail is a federal issue, but it isn't.
Now if your ex was taking the mail out of a mail truck before its delivered, that's a federal issue.
Your issue is civil, therefore you must use your local court system. And BTW, your ex isn't required by law to forward your mail. He can throw it in the trash and not much you can do about it.
Your best bet is go fill out a change of address form at your local post office, then move on with life.

I have an idea. Have a friend send you a letter that looks like a check or money, and has to be signed for..(I think it is called Certified)Then, you have a forgery against them. Make it irresistible... Actually, the Post Office should be officially forwarding your mail, if you have notified them.
Or, greet them in a dark alley with a big friend.

Send the wrongdoer a formal letter notifying him or her that you believe that they are receiving and keeping mail that belongs to you, and this is your official request that he or she forwards all future mail to you at ____ (<--- your address). Proceed by adding notice that should they continue to convert your mail that you will be forced to seek legal remedy.

Send 3 copies of this letter:
1) Via Certified Mail w/Return Receipt
2) Via regular mail
3) Addressed to YOURSELF, if they keep this letter then they're just blatantly bad bad bad...and not so bright.

And if they continue to keep your mail...call the police to request a police report. Or call your post office to find out how you should go about filing charges under federal law.

HOWEVER PLEASE NOTE: It might be simpler to just go to your local post office and complete a "Forwarding Address" form. It takes about 2 minutes and the USPS will automatically forward all mail w/your name on it to you for up to a year.

Peace & mail be onto you!

Tami

Go to a post office and check there. They have different procedures for doing these things than normal because tampering with the mail is a federal offense.

Go to usps.gov and simply fill out a change of address request. It takes a minute or two and then all your mail that goes to his address will go to where you want it.
