Don't worry, my parents are the same. Just tell them that geometry is new and it's very hard, but I will get it soon. Or something a long those lines.

I took Geometry last year as a sophomore, and I found it extremely difficult. I got a C minus the whole year, and at one point before mid-term finals, I was a half a point away from failing.

My mom was exactly like your dad...expecting me to get a relatively high grade in everything (and she knows that I am really bad a math). I just explained that my school has a somewhat different grading scale (A, B, C, and an F; no D's) and that any extra time I had would go for studying in the classes that needed it the most (Chemistry and Geometry).

Hope I helped. :D

Yes, there are so many parents out there overexpectant of their kids.

Try to get him to be more understanding. Tell him it's a hard class, and you did your best. Also to not be so overexpectant beyond your ability. He shouldn't be proud of what's in black and white on a piece of paper, he should be proud of you and who you are(good qualities). Sugarcoat it if you want or it's a weakness of his.

Or if there's going to be confrontation and maybe screaming matches, say it's your grade, not his and how insulting it is to how hard you've worked. And a B is a B. Unless he never got below an A, you can use that and say he's no perfect straight A student either. Or blame the teacher or outside cause. Hey, I get it. I did my best, messed up on several hard classes, my parents gave me dirty looks and yelled at me. And that's exactly what I told them.

Geometry will probably never be used in life. What? Are you going to go: "Hmm...I wonder if that Stop sign is congruent to that sign over there???" But it will be used, if you ever go into construction, building, or designing(such as archeitecture and such). Mostly, it's to teach you how to reason and have some common sense, because people sure do some stupid things out there. Example: My former geometry teacher read down a list. Example 1: One girl was crying beside her car. A man walked up and asked her what's wrong. She said she can't get into her car because her remote died. The man took her keys and unlocked the door for her. Example 2: At a checkout line. The cashier guy took the divider stick thing, scanned it, didn't work. He asked the customer whether she knew how much was it... Example 3: A mom at an emergency room brought her son in because he was eating ants. She gave him some insecticide...

Well, i think a B is great!!! Geometry is really hard and honestly you will probably never use it in real life. I think when i took geometry it was my sophmore year in highschool and i barely passed it. Math is not my strong point. Hopefully your dad will remember how hard it really was and he won't be so tough on you. Just be honest with him and tell him that you know you could do better, but it is all new to you and you are still trying to figure it out. Maybe you could look into a tutoring program at your school if you really want to get an A in the class. And if he is really mad at you then ask if he knows how to do geometry and ask if he can help you. B/c once he sees how hard it is then he will probably ease up on you. Good Luck!!

No it is not bad to get a B- in Geometry. As you begin taking more high school level courses and this is a high school level course, you probably won't get straight A's . A lot more responsibility is placed on kids these days and if you can honestly say you did your best, then he should be ok with a B-.

Don't worry, I have a C in Geometry right now.
My dad was just like "Whats this C in here for?"
and I said "That's Geometry."
lol...yeah i know.
Anyways I told him that it was our first quiz and test that got me a low grade.
Just explain the grade and promise to make it higher.

As a parent and a former teacher you need to ask yourself, "did I do my best?" and "does my teacher think I did my best." if you can truthfully answer these questions yes, then tell your parents that your did your best. if your parents don't believe you, they can go talk to the teacher and find out what he or she thinks. I had a student earn a "D" in one of my classes and the parents came to talk to me. I explained it to them the situation and they understood.

On a side note...I taught some math and did not do well in geometry the first time I took it...keep trying.
