I would choose a PS3 because of

A) Free online, which is also improving quite a bit

B) Is somewhat cheaper than the Xbox 360

PS3: -----------Xbox 360:

60gb PS3-$500 -----------Xbox 360 Elite (120gb)- $450
HDMI slot-Free---------HDMI slot- Only with Elite
Wifi-Free ----------Wifi- $99
Rechargeable Controllers-Free --------Recharge Kit- $20
Online-Free -----------Online- $50 a year
Blu-Ray Player-Free---------------HDDV... Player- $179

Total: $500 ----------------Total: $798

You might not use these accessories, so that’s why I say the PS3 is “somewhat cheaper”
Also why I said you have to get an Elite to compare it to the PS3 is because the elite is the only 360 console that has HDMI, which basically means it’s the only package that can get you true High-Def.

C) Has great exclusives coming out and all of these are different variety:
Heavenly Sword, Lair, Eight Days, Warhawk, Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Online, Killzone 2, Grand Turismo 5, Little Big Planet, Getaway 3, Driver 5, God of War III, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Jax and Daxter: Lost Frontier, Motorstorm, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Resistance: Fall of Man, SOCOM: Confrontation, Tekken 6, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, and White Knight Story. That’s all the games I can think of over 5 minutes.

Ok, now onto the boring stuff…

D) The PS3 is superior due to cell technology. This allows the PS3 to produce complex graphics far superior to any other console. The PS3 has a little over 2tfps and the Xbox 360 has 1. This basically means how well the system can do generating backgrounds like rain, clouds, etc. It also has to do with the amount of realism in graphical explosions and destruction scenes. The down side is however that it will be a while until game producers can max its potential because the cell processor is somewhat new in technology. That’s why games on the Xbox 360 look somewhat better right now. However, in about a year or two the PS3 will have better graphics. This is somewhat good too because then Sony wont have to make another console as soon because the PS3 has room to grow with technology, but then again nobody knows what technology can do in 5 years.

E) PS3 will probably be the better quality as in life span. Many Xbox 360s are already having hardware problems (25%-33% Xbox 360 have 3 red rings of death) when there has only been a reported 1% failure chance with the PS3. PS3 also has an emergency shut down feature, so if you PS3 overheats it will automatically shutdown until it is out of a dangerous temperature.

F) The PS3 has Blu-Ray. Blu-ray is a new type of video disc that allows movies and games to be more Hi-Def. The Blu-ray disc can hold up to 50gb allowing game developers to develop a longer game, better graphics, etc. The Xbox 360 only uses its game on classic DVD discs, which can only hold around 8 or 10gb depending on what type of DVD. Basically this means Xbox 360 games will have to be put on 2 discs in the future (for really big games)

Xbox 360 is not a bad system and has great games, but the extra 100 bucks are worth buying the PS3.

I have a xbox 360 and its great. the 360 has been out longer so it has a bigger selection of games and the online gameplay is much better than ps3. The grafics on ps3 in comparison is sometimes better than 360 with the main pictures like characters but the 360 puts much more detail into the backgrounds and gameplay quality. Although the 360 is better than the ps3 in those things its still has that problem with the 3 flashing red lights ive already had to send in my 360 and its really annoying how it breaks so easily.

That kid Armenchick is hilarious. Of course FEAR looks like crap, Its a 3 year old PC game that has been ported to 360 and PS3. And gaming magazines observed that the PS3 version was the best looking one of the three. Nice try, why didn't you use Resistance Fall of Man, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, or Heavenly Sword?? Probably because it would make your argument laughable. Armen needs to do his homework I think.

Anywaays back to the main question. I feel each system has its pros and cons. It is really a matter of personal taste. I have PS3 and 360. Both have great exclusive games.

I prefer my PS3 and have been playing it more as their have been a lot of really good games out lately and this lineup for the fall and into next year looks outstanding. Heavenly Sword has probably the best action and sword fighting system ever in a game to date! I keep replaying the game to get all the rewards.
I also like PS3 more because I've had less issues with it. It comes with everything built in and the technology is top notch. Blu Ray movies are like eye candy and the internet browser in very convenient.
360 has a easier user friendly online system but as for actual online gameplay there is no difference. The 360's live menus are set up better than the PS3's are.

After its all said and done though I really love the PS3. Its a great product through and through and the games that have been coming out lately have been stellar.

Later.

Xbox 360, which I own.

Until the PS3 has an online experience that can match the 360's, more than a handful of great exclusive games, or even cross platform games that can exceed the quality of the 360 versions, then it will be hard for me to justify to my wife why I need a PS3.

I don't want 360 - waste of money.
Almost a third of XBOX 360 are malfunctioning right from the start. PS3 return rate is only 0.3%.
Let's compare them

PS3 has 8 kernels in Cell processor, Xbox 360 -only 3x2
PS3 uses advanced tech called Blu-Ray, one disc can store up to 50 gb (in the future - up to 200 gb), Xbox 360 - regular DVD (4.7 gb).
Calculations per sec - PS3 - 51-billion-dot-product-operati... per second
Xbox 360 - 33.6-billion-dot-product-opera... per second
PS3 has full media support - USBs, built-in card reader (except 20 gb version), ability to use printer and so on.
Xbox 360 has USBs and only 2 memory slots.
PS3 supports up to 7 Bluetooth Controllers
Xbox 360 - up to 4 Controllers
PS3 - wi-fi included (except 20 gb version)
Xbox 360 - wi-fi will cost you around 130 $

Xbox 360 is widely known for so-called "red ring of doom" problem - it gets overheated easily. My PS3 was running for more than 8 hours non-stop with no problems. Sometimes Xbox 360 becomes so overheated, that thermopaste on CPU melts, drips on motherboard and successfully shortcircuits it.

Besides all of this, I've seen disassembled Xbox 360 - regular PC architecture - Billy Gates is a uninventive nerd (as usual).
When I saw disassembled PS3 - it was a surprise - smart architecture, good cooling (don't buy external PS3 coolers - they make everything worse - original system is good), etc.

In 2008 we'll get more than 300 games.

In some countries people call Xbox 360 "Coffin 360".

Have all 3 wii, ps3, and elite,,,If I had to sell two of the systems and just keep one...I would keep the PS3...

Response to the guy above who says Microsoft is putting games out on blueray--- Geeze are they re-releasing yet another 360 system in less than three years since original release.... First the 360 then the elite less than a year and a half later then the 360 pro with hdmi, still less then two years after initial release, next they are releasing the "65nm chipped machines"....

Microsoft adding a blueray for games for the 360 would make microsoft look like idiots why wouldn't they just produce the games on hddvd and bundle the hddvd players with the first game produced on hddvd.... Microsoft get your act together.... Like the game rock band they bundled the instruments , you spend two hundred etc...

That's why PS3 is better... Sony has foresight, microsoft just looks for the quick buck and the path to create a monopoly....Sorry Bill stick to gaming software you'll do your investors a big favor...

I have both. Loved my 360 since launch, then got a PS3 and prefer it at the moment. 360 just has nothing coming out for it besides Halo 3 and Mass Effect. That is all anyone talks about but after that, there is nothing for the system coming out. That and I worry less about my PS3 overheating and bricking. Can't wait for Killzone 2, MGS 4, Unreal Tourny 3, Haze, Wet, Heavenly Sword (STILL havent got my hands on a copy), Devil May Cry 4. And oh yeah Gears of War, you know the biggest game on 360? Well Gears of War 2 is coming to Playstation 3 bitches! Oh yeah and Dualshock 3!

i like 360 more because of the halo franchise .but it's a matter of first party exclusives for now. because most games will be out and comparible on both systems. now are you a halo and mass effect player or a god of war and metal gear fan that;s the real question.because in three years sony's games will be freakin nut's and xbox will be puting out a new system on blueray tech.so which exclusives do you want and do you want to play today or tomarrow. like i said i'm a halo guy who want's to play now, that doesn't mean i don't fire up the ps2 for god of war and final fantasy.i dream of a day where every game goes multi platform .yes i said it halo on ps3 and god of war on xbox 720
