I am studying Spanish in Salamanca , Spain this semester. I will be here until Decemeber 17 when I return to the states. I don´t have a large budget to work with but would like to take three short four day trips while I am here. The university I am studying at an attendence policy of where I can only miss 10% of the classes and still get credit. We also only have scheduled week days off. And now to my question. Can you suggest some travel advice for someone like me on a tight budget? Can you please suggest some cities that are the best bang for the buck? I was thinking London and Paris and maybe a German city. How do Hostals usually work? Any advice would be very well recieved! I will be traveling by myself.

Look into the prices of the cheap airlines, search for tickets Salamanca and whatever town you want to go to, add flights or air if you do not get the wanted results.
If there are flights to eastern European countries they are a better bet for someone on a tight budget.
(Maybe one weekend in either London or Paris, they are rather alike and both expensive, the others in a cheaper town in one of the former communist countries.)
Also consider staying in Spain, as the different towns are really different (I am told, only been to Barcelona.)

Hostels:
You can book ahead, see their website, (each hostel has a website these days,) and follow the link for booking. Or you can phone in, and reserve a bed. (Do mention the time of day you expect to arrive, as beds not paid are only kept till about 6 PM unless you told them you would be late.)
If you travel between now and mid December you will not need to book ahead, so if you just walk in at a town there is most likely a place for you in a hostel. Phone from the airport or trainstation to make sure and save time.

You will be given a bed in a dorm, mostly single sex but some hostels have mixed dorms too.
You can leave your bag in the dorm, (if you bring your own sheets you safe in most hostels but not all, so ask when you phone in,) and go into town.
Depending on the hostel you will be locked out a certain time of night, or get a key or code for the door.
If you get a code, do write it down on your hand, as you might not be able to find it when on paper after a night in town.

You can find a hostel on the WWW, or in a guidebook, you might be able to get a copy of a Lonely Planet guidebook in a second hand bookshop. (Even worth the money for a new one if you can safe on the cost for a hotel.)
Or ask others at the University you study, I am sure more students travel a bit.

If you have a tight bugdet London is too expensive. Paris is quite expensive too, and what about Rome?
The cheapest place of Europe are Spain, Portugal and maybe Greece.

For budget accommodation check out :-

www.Hihostels.com

Clean, safe, and not too expensive (15 to 20 Euro per person per night). Exceptionally good in Belgium. No age restrictions.

Enjoy your trip

Why could people pick to fulfill their contacts? no longer a robust concept! How do you recognize that your superb, friendly sounding touch isn't an awl murderer waiting for his next sufferer? in case you will meet a sprint, verify that's in a public place with a lot of people around.
