There are two separate parts to this question. The first has to do with getting into the school. The other has to do with getting an athletic scholarship.

Getting into the school is the same process for all students with regards to what is required for the application. You will need to look at the individual school that you are considering.

As to an athletic scholarship, most college coaches keep track of the top high school athletes in their region and nationwide. If you are a good player on a good team (top division, advancing to quarters in your state's play-offs), you will get noticed without much effort on your part.

If you are a good player on a lesser team (not top division, missing play-offs), you will need to talk with your coaches about how they can help you. Most high school coaches know someone on the coaching staff of some university (maybe not a University in the Bowl Division, but maybe a University in the Championship Division or Division II). You can probably get your coach to send a highlight tape of your play to that person with a suggestion that they should consider you for a scholarship.

The most important thing for an athletic scholarship is not how good someone else says that you are but how good you actually are. At some point, either a university is going to want a videotape of your highlights or will have a scout attending a game of yours.

Mostly they want someone who plays very well. Good grades help, and good dedicated personality.
