This dates back even to slavery. The light-skinned slaves worked in the house while the dark-skinned slaves labored out in the fields. People paint this picture as if your dark your ugly and if your light your pretty. I'm not saying all people are like that even though it is evident sometimes within the black race. You know there was this old saying: "If your white your alright, If your brown stick around, but if your black stay back." I know that I am beautiful regardless of my skin-tone but sometimes I do feel insecure about having a darker skin tone. Anyways, what is your opinions? Do some of you who are dark-skinned African Americans sometimes feel this way?

Dark skin is beautiful. Don't let others put you down or tell you different. Light skin or dark skin we still black at the end of the day. Their are gorgeous dark and light skin girls and some who are not. Skin color have nothing to do with being attractive. Black skin comes in many different shades and each is beautiful. Just be confident in yourself and love the skin your in.

I agree with you(even though I'm light-skinned) a lot of my friends are dark and pretty. And even though are pretty alot of boys will look at me first before they look at them. I hear other girls talk about their scare to be dark-skinned. I think dark is beautiful. It means your closer to your African backgroud while my ancestors were rapped my the "master" or any other white person.
So all you dark-skinned ladies stick up head up because you are beautiful no matter what your color.

Well i am light skinned and you really shouldn't compare both suffered from slavery and it's cruel that u say that light skinned have it easier cuz we don't,i think dark skinned or light skinned can be beautiful as long as u have a nice face and is fit dats aaight wit me LOL. come on there are a lot of beautiful dark skinned people naiomi campbell ,the william sisters and there's also a lot of beautiful light skinned :halle berry,vanessa williams there's plenty more,and as a light skinned please don't be discouraged your beautiful and plz don't change ur self hunni. I understand you. I'm not light skin at all, I am brown toned , but people seem to think light skin is more beautiful than darker skin. It seems like some guys will always go for that light skinned girl even if the darker girl is prettier. I am proud to be Black, what better way to show your race of, than by your color. Who cares what people think, as long as you are proud of who you are.

I'm light skin but i think dark skin is beautiful its like chocolate .my cousins on my mothers side have lovely dark skin and i used to wish i had dark skin

Well I have three sisters and my sister Erica is the darkest one out of the three of us but she is equally beautiful and tons of guys hit on her of all races so being dark or light skinned doesn't matter. She's still beautiful.

I dont (think) I get looked down on.
All colors are beautiful, some people are just to naive to see that.

Man, I've seen and i know some very very attractive dark-females i'm sure one of them. Don't let that stop you from loving yourself. It's apart molding you into a Trophy Woman!!!
