You can do it alone.. if you have good experience...and know where the veins are in your tongue.
I would say a 14 gauge piercing needle would be big enough for a tongue barbell.
But get a taller-than-standard barbell because your tongue will swell.
But if you aren't EXTREMELY sure how to do it and how to look up for the veins and nerves, you could end up losing your taste buds, so be careful.
As for the nose... use an 18 gauge piercing needle.. there's no real threats with the nose... but with the tongue... you'd be better off having a friend do it so you don't hit veins or anything. Even better than having a friend do it is getting it done professionally... but if you really want to risk never being able to taste again.. then go for it.

That is the biggest reason why you don't pierce your own tongue. That's why there are professionals. If you aim just slightly wrong, you can pierce that artery and you will die from blood loss. It's not a joke.

You asked if you could pierce your tongue on your own, and NO YOU CAN'T. That's your MOUTH! You could get blood poisoning so bad and you won't be able to talk or eat properly. Sweetie, I've seen it happen. If you want it, get it done professionally, if you can't, you don't need it. Do NOT do it. Sorry for caring. Do not pierce ANYTHING on your own. There's a REASON you have to be licensed to pierce people.

you shouldnt do it alone or at all facial peircings make all girls ugly. period. i dont know of one girl who looks good in a nose ring or anything like that
now ears and bellybutton are hot

I would get it done professionally my friend did it by her self and she got some type of infection

no you cant do it by yourself not all people can get their tongue pierced. go get it done somewhere

I would serously not do it on your own.
