am interested in both becoming a foster parent and adopting a child. I realize all laws in different states are different. I live in ohio. But i was wondering genrally what are the rules on the age you have to be to become a foster parent/adoptive parent and also if there is an income requirement for either.

HUGE obstacle course to run to adopt.

The only thing to do is know that it will be difficult, and then get professional help (usually with a social service agency like Catholic Charities or someone who provides adoption services and/or monitors foster care) and take the rules / forms / hoops one at a time.

NOTE: Not only will the state law vary, but the rules of the various agencies will be different too.

Side note: You sound like you want to do this yourself? You dont mention the marital 'we'.... Single parents are about 80% more likely to live / stay below the poverty line, and the children of single parents have similar problems. :(

Good Luck!

Most foster parents get an income supplement for doing it. Adoption of a, previous or current, foster child is frowned upon (I really don't know the reason but I have been told that). Adoption seems to be a hard thing to do. Seems crazy with all the kids in Homes. Age will probably be anything over 21. You will also need to let the agency involved check your background and your home to assure a safe haven for the child.
