This is one I got from a mailing list a few weeks ago that worked very well indeed:

3/4 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons borax

Mix the ingredients together until the sugar and borax are dissolved. Then dip pieces of bread in it, place on cardboard or something similar, and leave the baits where you see the ants. The ants will chow down, and carry the poison back to their nests. You should see results within hours, and by the next day they will be mostly if not all the way gone.

The leftover solution will keep in the refrigerator for quite a while.

Good luck!

Try some pureed Orange Peels (save the pulp & juice- for yourself). Blend them into a really soft "mash", and place little piles of it wherever you find the holes ants are coming out of. Ants HATE the stuff, & will go elsewhere to avoid it. You'll probably have to repeat the application of the "orange mash"- a few times. But it works...:)

I have a pet sitting service and frequently run into ant trails. It is true they won't cross a chalk line.
I also put pet food dishes in a moat made from putting 1/2" of water on a dinner plate. No way will they try to swim across one.

the main helpful ant eliminating treatment i've got ever come for the period of is undeniable previous granulated sugar. in case you are able to decide the place the ants stay (outdoors), pour a tablespoon of sugar in the direction between their homestead and yours. they would be so happy with the sugar that they gained't might desire to come again back interior your place. save a watch on it, and pour out a splash extra if/whilst the present pile gets eaten (whether it's going to take a on an identical time as, 'reason there's a great style of energy in that one little pile).

I just read a tip from Heloise.. She said to wipe the countertops with vinegar to eliminate any scent trail. Then to mix Borax (available in the laundry isle) and either sugar or shortening just keep out of reach of children/pets.. Place inside medicine bottle caps or shallow dishes, behind cabinets/appliances .

Salt! To my amazement, ants crawled 2 stories up and went thru a unseen crack of the skylight to feast on the apple core my son left in the bathroom. I immed my friend in New Zealand to let him know I was going to get ant spray. He told me to save my money and pour salt throughout their trails. They will take the salt to their nest and it will kill them. It didn't take long and they all unbelievably disappeared!

I had some red ants inside my car. I poured some baking soda on them. It helped, I didn't see them the next day or after.
