They seem to be attracted to anything white. They also seem to like heat. Don't know of anything that repels them. However, I do have a wonderful method of cleaning them off your windshield in a pinch. Dryer sheets. Take any brand of dryer sheet (Bounce works best), wet it, and start scrubbing on your wet windshield. The chemical in the dryer sheet dissolves the bug guts like a hot knife in butter. You may need to add a little more water as you work. In severe cases, you may need to use 2 dryer sheets, but one usually does the trick. Rinse your windshield well when finished. I didn't believe it worked until I tried it.

my parents have them so bad, its like a swarm of bees...i'll make sure to tell them not to wear white and to use the drier sheets to clean off the cars with...thanks for the tip-sonya-
