On the counter, puppy ate the wooden thingy holder so she could eat the TP, high fiber diet! She LOVES paper towels too, also mail or anything made out of paper, including money!!
Maybe she is wiping from the inside out!

I just saw your question while reading alot of them. Funny I
missed it earlier. Anyway, I had to laugh when I saw what you
do. Lady, there are two of us now who do that very same
thing.
I have been known to switch which way the paper rolls in
restaurant restrooms and other public places. If I want to slap
the roll for more paper, I have to slap it on the side and let it
fall a few squares. How could I slap it if the end square is on
the inside wall without a major drop down? Well anyway, I
guess I am a control freak, when it comes to certain things
that would otherwise make me uncomfortable leaving it the
way I came in. Well, I'm a senior now,and I've earned all my
quirks LOL.

For me, if there is a lot of space in the bathroom over the top is the nicest and easiest to manipulate
but for those tiny little bathrooms with all the walls right up against your shoulders
I believe it should be hanging down alongside the wall
where it can be easily grabbed without having to be a contortionist
of course this should require that users activate a little common sense and leave a little bit hanging for the next person to see and easily grab
I much prefer big bathrooms where one can have the wall holder as a back up supply but in addition have some little self standing pedestal holder making the roll accessible to easy reach from the 'throne' and of course that should always be coming over the top and toward the easy reach of the 'throne'

My husband and I had this argument all the time. He likes it over the top too but when my daughter was a toddler, this was her favourite game! I got really tired of re-rolling the paper back on only to find it all over the floor again. I stopped that one fast by having it roll down under . She kept spinning the roll to no avail and moved on to some other mischief. Great question . People have been discussing this and the darn toothpaste cap for as long as I can remember!

At first I thought that this was a "wiping strategy" question, lol....ok, about the roll "direction"...I try to have it going over the top most of the time...I'm not too hung up on this, however. What does really bug me is for the roll to run out and the next person doesn't put the new roll on the holder. Rather, they just leave the empty roll on the holder and start using the new roll just putting it on top of the tp holder....grrrrr.....

Well Granny, I got sick of being a contortionist to reach the TP and since I live alone it is sitting on the edge of the bathtub and I just reach over and get it. When the kids were little, from the back, saved about 50 rolls a month, from the front was a half roll for each swipe.

Personally, I think over the top is best. It makes it easier to find the starting end to pull on.
Note that some printed (seasonal or otherwise) TPs have a correct direction because of the printing. (Who would want an upside down Santa Claus, for example?) Handle accordingly.
Would you believe I actually got in trouble with a previous girlfriend for doing it the "wrong way"? She had had the "right way" drilled in to her by her old-world father (who probably didn't have TP when he was her age!), so she passed it along to me. That was our first "big" argument!
If you are in my bathroom ... (1) feel free to change it UNLESS it would mess up any printed design on it, and (2) who the heck ARE you and what are you doing in my bathroom????? ;-)
Keepin' it "natural" here, folks ...
Oh, and (3) smile for the camera. Thank you.

Definitely over the top. It's way easier to make it work the way you want it to work when the active side is facing you rather than stuck in the little area behind the roll where you can't reach or see. I know people who put it the opposite way and it's kind of annoying, sometimes I do change it.

I'm with you Granny...100%. I insist on ALL rolls dispensing from the top. The other way just looks sloppy to me.

over the top. When you pull from behind - you end up with 10 yards of paper. I'm with you.
