Any thing acidic will increase the conduction of current flow.
If this is for a scool project, I suggest somethig safe, such as a small amount of vinigar or lemon juice. Ask your science teacher if unsure! There may be harmful gaseous byproducts with some other acids such as sulfuric! (It`s fun to experiment, but could be dangerous!)
A lemon (or parts) with two disimilar metals stuck into (Like penny and dime) forms a battery. Wiring in series will produce more voltage.
Ancients (such as Egytians) used batteries for the plating of metals!

What is usually put into the water is dilute sulphuric acid. You can't put a lot of highly ionic compounds in because although they would increase the conductivity, you would start to get other products apart from hydrogen and oxygen.
Hard water conducts electricity slightly better than soft water, but if you add H2SO4, the effect will be completely wiped out.

soft water is the best.Because hard water cannot become as a conductor of electricity.
