beans and lentils are an excellent source of protein, and there are many delicious recipes on how to prepare them so your whole family will enjoy them. You can serve vegetarian, or supplement with low cost cuts of meat, or chicken. Rice is much cheaper than pasta, and you can use it to supplement meals, potatoes (even better, sweet potatoes or yams) are also inexpensive and tasty. Eggs are good protein, and can be easily and deliciously prepared.
In general, don't even look at prepared food unless it is on a major sale, and don't even walk down the snack or cookie aisles.
It helps alot to prepare a meal plan for the two weeks BEFORE you even hit the supermarket so you can stay on track and buy only what you actually need, not what you think you mght need, and if you plan correctly, you can use up all your leftovers, and not throw food (and money) into the trash.
If you go online, you can find out which supermarkets local to you offer the best prices, and which have sales on the items you need to maximize your savings.

Well stick to the basics, Pasta and sauce are good for all and nobody will starve. For less than 10 or 15 bucks you can have at least 3 or 4 meals worth of food.
Thereafter I would look at breakfast, go with something that's filling and nutritious - here fresh fruits and bulk cereal is a good choice.
Lunch is a little trickier and usually the least controlled meal of the day. PB&J works wonders for kids but that doesn't usually help mom or dad too much.
Snacks, raisins and small fruits and vegetables or cereal can be good finger food for a child.
Stay away from the more expensive foodstuffs and you should be ok. Also make sure there is milk and juice as well as coffee for the adults. The coffee doesn't have to be fancy but it shouldn't be intolerable either.

Buy everything in bulk that will last for two weeks.
Flour, rice, pasta, salt, beans, etc. (pasta you can make at home with flour, salt, and water plus its fresh)
At times you can buy can veggies instead of fresh veggies at cheaper price. Not only will can veggies be good for a long time and be available at any times, you may not be able to get fresh veggies at certain time. If you don't like salt or on a diet you can always wash the product before use. Just by washing the can veggies can reduce the sodium level in half.
You can go to dollar stores and buy generic brands. Its basically the same thing. All you doing is paying more for the name of the brand and not what is in the can.
Buy meat in bulk and freeze in portion. You can buy meat cheap due to the expire date being sooner but as long as you put it in the freezer when home then it's still good.

I can make $100 last for 3 weeks .
Learn to cook from scratch and stop wasting money on pre-cooked , pre-prepared food .
Buy bags of rice , veggies , eggs and poultry .
Make tea from the bulk leaf stuff .
It is all the new conveniences that cost the most $$$ ,
Not the basic food .

Go to something like Winco and buy basics, rice, pasta, chicken, fruit and vegetables. Stay away from anything processed (except maybe bread) and there should not be a problem.

pasta is always a good way to make meals stretch. only buy on sale. go to a dollar store for things like juice, cereal, mac and cheese. It can be done, I've had to do it. Make a list and stick to it.
