"For example, the popular Nike athletic shoes that sell for US$73 to $135 around the world are produced by 75,000 workers employed by independent contractors in low income countries. A substantial portion of these workers are in Indonesia--mostly women and girls housed in company barracks, paid as little as 15 cents an hour, and required to work mandatory overtime. Unions are forbidden and strikes are broken up by the military. In 1992, Michael Jordan reportedly received $20 million from the Nike corporation to promote the sale of its shoes, more than the total compensation paid to the Indonesian women who made them."

No, I don’t wear trainers, I wear shoes. 1:
that’s an interesting way to initiate the question. How many people do think put thought into what they are wearing, buying and where it comes from. This is a complex subject. in regards to the fashion industry its social corporate responsibility and ethical trading (policies/codes) the companies should refuse to work with contractors where any unethical conditions may apply and be doing their best to avoid companies who employ secondary contractors where it is difficult to monitor the circumstances.

Companies like ‘Nike’ know what to invest in and what will be promoting their sales, the influence of fashion and media over consumerism is an inevitably strong one. regarding the case concerning compensation for the Indonesian workers Nike couldn't justify what they had done.

the issue could also regard to cheaper fashion on the market, where mainly supermarkets are competing with each other for lower prices and increases in sales. What is concerning is that although the goods are cheap ie; £1 for 1 school blouse from Asda how much pay do you think workers in third world countries will be receiving.

No I don't, partly because of that reason you speak, but partly cos I don't like them. Let's be honest though, all the big manufacturers do this (fact), so if you have any brand name you're a hypocrite. I've got Adidas trainers and I love them, but in terms of using cheap labour, they're all as bad as each other. So I'm a hypocrite too I'm afraid.
If you do some research beyond newspaper articles, you'll realise this, like I did.

All I know is Nike is a good shoe. I can't think of any other shoe I would put on my feet when I workout. I am sorry for the people who made the shoes.

My friend have run across this amazing discount store and then decided to buy one there. Not quite awesome with the shipment speed however does save money around 83% and perfect to get this. The quality is superior and right until now not spot any defects.
