I would like to respond to Prairie Fire:
We have neighbors ok? They aren't miles away, in fact some houses are so close that you can't walk between very well. Also, the winters aren't that bad anymore, they are actually very mild compared with what my parents and grandparents say about the winters they grew up in. Also, there are alot more job opportunities for people, such as specialty doctors, and other occupations that don't have alot of competition and they do very well. South Dakota isn't just a bunch of hicks living in the middle of nowhere and knows everybody in the state. We live in cities and have all kinds of jobs, and certainly don't know everyone. Perhaps before anyone makes generalizations, they should get real facts and stop making false accusations.

Well, at last count more than 781,000 people reside in South Dakota. I think that would dispell your account that 'people don't want to live there'. I would say that perhaps because of the climate, and the income level, people might not want to have this state as their main home - but a home away from home. If you wanted to make more than $100K, a year, you might not want to live there. I believe that the overall income per year average is about $40K

About the financial issue, maybe the income is generally lower, but the cost of living is MUCH lower than most other places, so it all evens out, most usually for the better. If you think there are no jobs in SD, you haven't been there. There are all kinds of jobs for all kinds of people. There are ups and downs to living ANYWHERE but SD is beautiful, the people are wonderful and life just seems more convenient. Parking is NEVER a problem, you don't have to wait at bus stops, educations systems are great/personalized, crime is low, businesses aren't overcrowded and the people are friendly and caring.

I would love to live in South Dakota, it is beautiful, especially around the Black Hills. It will also make it easier for my doctors visits as I go to Hot Springs and and the VA hospital in Sturgis. (I live in western Nebraska).
