i bought a used motor guide 45 truster trolling motor it works but doesnt turn off are whitch speeds.stays at one speed and turns on as soon as wires touch battery.can i leave the negative wire on the battery and put on the positive when i wont to use the trolling motor and only take off the positive when not using the trolling motor while fishing are well this mess something up?

You can go to Wal-mart or a sporting goods store and buy a big foot switch. They are only about $10.00. Just hook up the negative on each side and your problem is solved. It would be like a foot controlled instead of a handle. Good luck

That's not a good idea.
Making sparks near a battery is always a bad idea. The gasses inside the battery are explosive. (hydrogen gas)
