Atleast the Bucs finally have a solid nucleus to build around. In the past, they just had too many holes to fill and went out and got free agents that were washed up and no other team wanted. Now they can concentrate on getting just a couple players to continue their progress. I think their new CEO is going to shake things up a bit in the front office and that has been long overdue. Once they get a GM (experienced one I hope) in place, they can start making the good changes they need to become competitive. They've already made a commitment to develop players in Latin America and are even getting more involved in Japan and the Far East. At least the Nuttings seem a lot more concerned than McClatchy was! Let's give him a chance and see what develops.....can't get too much worse.

Baseball needs a salary cap. Payrolls are out of control, players making far more than they deserve, and fans taking it in the shorts when it comes to prices. Remember the games of yesteryear when the seats were filled for every game....day or night....weekday or weekend. When a beer or hot dog was a buck, and it didn't take an eternity between pitches. Now it's way too expensive for the small town teams to compete.....NY makes it a joke by buying all the big money talent. Games are so long now with all the batters calling time and doing all that adjust the gloves crap that really isn't necessary.

With new front office management they have a chance someday. But they must be willing to spend some money on some quality players who will stay here longer than a year or two. They must bolster their farm system and draft by need and not what they want to pay. They will have to start out small because they are a small market team but they should get a couple of players who will be their bread and butter and assist those who are well established . Then get a few players who will solidify the lineup and a few utility positions and bullpen and another starter over a period of two-three years then they might show signs of getting out of their funk.

Not as long as they have owners that look at the team strictly as a business. Yes, home-grown talent is nice but sooner or later you've gotta spend some money on free agents. They don't have to spend like the Yankees but you can't win in baseball being cheap.

Well they could be a very good team if they would start spending money to acquire some free agents. Otherwise with the way they are going I don't see them winning or contending for anything anytime soon.

They will if they get some talent and spend some money. It can't go on forever.
