Some people are really dumb, but at the same time really happy. They just don't care about the deeper things in life. They have a lot of fun, care about their family, and so forth. The educated person, on the other hand, understands so much. Maybe too much for his own good. Which is better? Blissful ignorance or education?

We need both in a world. Everybody can't be college professors, biochemists, and aerospace engineers. We need fast-food workers, maids, and busboys. It's the facts of life. Personally, I prefer being educated because you can always choose to take a simpler job if you want, but if you dropped out of high school, there are alot of jobs you can't get.

There is a time for thinking as well as a time for not thinking. The educated people you seem to be talking about seem to always want to be thinking. Meanwhile, the ignorant seem to be barely thinking.

Just looking at the roles of each groups gives insight on how you should be. The thinker improves life and invents. The ignorant lives life and is happy. So think when improving, and live while not :P And do not always try to constantly improve. If you are constantly improving, when will you stop and live? YOu might say "o after i do this i'll start living." But you don't, you keep making more and more goals. What use is improving something you'll never use?

I think being more educated than blissfully ignorant is easier for OTHER people to deal with. Nothing is more annoying than dealing with someone so ignorant and judgemental when they have absolutly no idea what they are talking about. I think ignorant people tend to be the most hated but I think those same ignorant people tend to travel in pact so they dont feel the same rejection as the smarter people do. Educated people are often out numbered and feel like the "odd man out". So perhaps it is easier to be blissfully ignorant. Educated people know whats really going on and focus on changing the owrld for the better. Ignorant couldnt give a ****. After all "Ignorance is bliss!"

This is a very good question. I think it would be better for the world is less people were ignorant. Not everyone's ignorance is blissful, in fact, much of it is hateful toward other people. I prefer to be educated, and am willing to take on the burden of the knowledge I have. I'm not innocent of ignorance, but I try to avoid it in my life by learning as much as I can.

To me, it's better to be educated. I just couldn't be blissful and ignorant at the same time. There's too many things can creep up on you if you're ignorant. BUT - if I could anesthetize my mind so that I could be blissfully ignorant, I might be interested in giving ignorance a try.

Let me repeat what John Stuart Mill spoke about his father, James Stuart Mill in the context of 'quantification' of pleasure.John Mill said that " I prefer to be the most unhappy Socrates than the happiest Pig in the world". Knowledge of truth and reality shall indeed bring lots of pain, but it is better to know than not knowing at all. The happiness of ignorant is tha of a Pig in filth. Ignorance is not bliss, but knowledge shall indeed bring bliss, as the Buddha found it.

I think blissful ignorance can be dangerous, depending on what people are ignorant about. For instance, gas-guzzling SUVs have been very popular in recent years, and I think it's sad that only high gas prices make people reconsider what they drive. Or take AIDS. Someone who is blissfully ignorant of AIDS is not going to take the safety precautions necessary to prevent an HIV infection.

One can be educated and, consequently, possess a battery of weapons or tools with which to make favorable changes.
Whereas; the blissfully ignorant are 'stuck' with their lot...which is okay so long as they stay out the way.
