Looking on Ebay and there was not region stated on the film my father wants. I asked the seller and he stated it was multi region. Not sure if that would play on my fathers machine which plays region 2 films.

Hello Robin,

If the seller says it is multi-region that normally means that it will play on any DVD.

However, I may be wrong but it suggests to me that the DVD he is selling could be an illegal copy. As far as I am aware DVDs are produced for certain formats and made only to play on those formats. ie Region 1 will play on US machines but not on UK or European machines, which are produced for Region 2.

It also depends on the DVD player your father owns. Quite a few players you buy in the UK can now play any DVD from any country. I know some of the cheaper end of the DVD player market play all DVDs, some Goodman's and Bush do.

You can also buy, quite legally, DVD players here in the UK which are able to play all DVDs.

Sony do a very nice one at around £50.

If you or your father would like to buy one may I suggest emailing Richer Sounds. I know they sell multi region DVDs quite legally. The have many shops in the UK. When most DVD players are made for the UK market they are specifically region 2 only but they can have the this function removed so they will play any DVD region. This is quite legal and I know Richer Sounds do this with some models.

The email address had to be split because it was not showing correctly when I posted this answer. Of course the address is typed as a continuous address.

If the seller is trying to get you to buy an illegal copy, the copy may be bad and of course you could be in trouble by buying it.

Good luck

If the disc is indeed multi-region ("no region" might make more sense) then it should play on any machine, just as a multi-region player should play any disc, regardless of its region. If the seller's right about this, it should be fine.

Ask from where you bought it or check the DVD box, or you can also search your DVD name on google and check. Your PC can definitely do the job, but you will need to download a videoplayer that reads all regions (VLC Media player)... Your DVD player on your PC (by its own) can read only one region, however, you can change that region to whatever you want, but that will only work once. The best options would be to buy a region free DVD or to download VLC Media player.
