You can upgrade your HDD and RAM. Visit www.dell.com to find out up to how much RAM you can upgrade and to find out if your hard drive connects to your motherboard using a PATA/EIDE interface or SATA interface. I strongly recommend professional installation of your hard drive and RAM. Good luck.

Go to Crucial.com and run the system scan -- it is a great way to start shopping for RAM. They will tell you what you currently have, what you can upgrade to and how much it will cost. I used the site and the company (Micron) for nearly all of my Dell computers. I've also purchased upgrades for Dells from NewEgg.com. You can find instructions for doing it yourself online, too. It's not difficult at all. I would start looking online for DVD-ROM drives to find which suits your needs and to familiarize yourself with the pricing. I'd caution you against using eBay (I've had some bad luck with computer/electronics purchases on eBay).

It'll go faster, and RAM upgrade is pretty cheap. SSD... faster yes, cost is debatable, and you have to live with much smaller size. Whether it's cost effective... is a good question. As it came out in 2003, I'd say, no. You can't even find an SSD for something that old.
