The only people that make money on casinos are the owners. A casino on a reservation does not mean all of the tribal members get a share of the profits. Native Americans are ignored because they are an embarassment to the US government. It took an act of Congress in 1924 to even recognize them as citizens of the US and they were here first! Then in 1968, Congress passed the Indian Civil Rights Act giving provisions of the Bill of Rights to tribal governments. The 2000 census noted that less than one percent of the US population as Native American. I find it somewhat disquieting that the US government insists on promoting Democracy in foreign countries when what they puke as spoken words about Democracy is not practiced within our own society. Liberty and freedom is not what it used to be in this country. The do-gooders and Christians have ruined our society for everyone. They champion Democracy as if it were a religious doctrine. Democracy is the reason for the decline of Native Americans. Democracy destroyed their way of life and stole their nation out from under them. Nothing is free, not even for Native Americans. There is a huge price to pay for doing business with the USA and being a slave to its economy!

we are not all a dying race. Smaller Tribes may have problem but certain Tribe are growing because of the money that the casinos bring. People who would never claim to be Native Americans before because of the so called shame are now wanting to be a part of Tribes. We call them "White Indians"
We are the only Federally recognized in the state of Alabama, we have a casino but the state will not work out a pac with us to open up class 3 gaming. So the funds we receive are limited, but we do take care of our elders. We owe them that respect.
I get tired of people saying they have gotten the short in of the stick, I think the Native Americans got the shaft. We were driven off our land by force and not given a choice where to go. I know that the African American were done the same way, but they get special rights not afforded to us. The also got an apology from the president, Where is our apology?
when will we get job protection?

No in less you consider 62 million full-bloods and 250 million half-bloods a dying race. Mexico and Peru have the highest Native American and Mestizo population. Remember Native Americans are not only in the US their in all the Americas. Some of the largest tribes are the Quechua(Inca) 12 million, Mayans 7 million, and Nahuas(Aztec) 3 million, Aymara 2.5 million, and Mapuche 2 million. My tribe has 65,000 population.

This does not answer your question but if we cared about the land and protected and respected it as it was by the Native Americans in the past I believe the earth would be a lot better off and therefore the people of this earth a lot better off. I find it very sad and disrespectful to the earth and future generations we leave it to and wish we all could treat it, ourselves and others better.

Maybe you don't hear much about it because you aren't paying attention/aren't looking for info, the government and an amount of society still wishes to sweep them under the rug and forget that they and history exist, and also...to me, many don't seem to be as much as the "b*tch and moan" type as some other 'races'...action gets a person farther then just complaining.

I think they are a dying race in this country. I also think that when our public schools stop teaching the "heroism " of Christopher Columbus only then will this country show that Native Americans are a cared about race.
