Is it that people are so closed mined that they have to choose an ansewr they agree with? So they don't have to deal with people that disagree with them?

There are some posters such as Chi Guy, Whooziedude and Uncle Daddy to name a few who post questions and keep them open more than 24 hours. They try to get as many answers as possible. Those who close their answers in 24 hours are usually those who are just looking for someone spewing their version of the "truth" regardless of whether or not it is based on fact. No acknowledgment of differing views etc are there
I agree with you that some do it so that they don't
a) get jumped on by others who might think their question/comment/view is asinine
b) They don't really care what anyone thinks, they just want validation for their thoughts. period or
c) They don't think they will get any additional answers after 24 hours.

The politics section has huge turnover. You can post a question and five hours later it's on page 6. That is why people in politics tend to choose their best answers sooner than some other categories. How many people search 6 pages in to find questions to answer? Not too many. Within a couple of hours you have received all the answers you are going to get. It doesn't have anything to do with being closed minded. That comes in when, as you say, people always choose answers they agree with, but that's another subject. It's not as though if you leave your question up for 5 hours you only have answers from those who agree with you, people who disagree with questioners pounce just as quickly as those who do agree.
