Good question, I've always wondered the same thing myself. Lord knows it's sometimes difficult enough on our little island to make out what one cockerney said to another geordie who remarked to a scouser etc. Does this apply in Yankee land?

I can tell a slight difference in the way some English people talk. I think it's because of where in England they live.
Amercans do not have the same accent. It all depends on where you live and where you're from.

i am british and can tell the difference between american accents. I think it depends entirely on the 'ear' of the person. I can usually pick out a canadian too.
everyone is different. I've travelled far and wide, and am also a musician so maybe those two things have helped to fine tune my ears?!

Americans recently found it difficult to understand Ant & Dec with their show in America. It's obvious from this that we Brits do have different accents that some Americans find difficult to understand.

We do not sound alike! (Sorry about that grammar mistake, I just saw how stupid I sound...)
And no, I don't think so. Some say oop, others say oup(up). Other than that I don't really study the accent too closely.
But I do know that Americans sound nothing alike...I'm a New Yawka.

No, I didn't know that they sounded different. I can't believe you can't discern between an American Southern accent and a Brooklyn one (it's pretty easy).

No. There's the cockney accent, which is distinct from the rest. There are other accents that I don't know a name for, but are definitely distinct.
