I work in a hospital, the surgical waiting area. The policy is, to validate the parking tickets, of the family members, of the patients, who are having surgery on that day. Not the day before. Only the day of surgery. This particular gentleman felt I should have validated his ticket because his aunt was having surgery, but it wasn't scheduled until the next day, he was just visiting her. I explained hospital policy to him, tried to give him information about purchasing a parking pass, he did not want it. His response was, you should change your policy. He then said he has a relative on the board of directors, and wanted my name, so he could report, my behavior to this person. I feel I've done nothing wrong, some of my co-workers, said they would have just stamped his ticket just to shut him up. What would you have done?

I would give him my name and that of my supervisor.

If you do not have that authority to change the policy - then you can't do it. You can only follow it.

You might want to give the boss a heads up on the incident - should he get a phone call.

TY for NOT stamping his ticket, your co-worker is a worm. Bad behavior should never be rewarded.
The dude lied about his relative and even if he did not. Do you honestly think your boss would disapline you for following the rules. If I was your boss I would be mad if you let him slide.
Some one has to pay for the parking garage, and the security. If no one does the patients have to pay with increased medical bills

Stick to your guns. There are people in the world that think they are exempt from the rules and "deserve" special consideration.
If the 'board' wants to change policy, let them, in the meantime, its your duty to stick to the policy as written.

So, he's going to report your behavior of enforcing current policy!! So what, based on what you've stated, this person is the south end of a north bound donkey.
