even if you not asked to keep a secret?

Speaking for myself, no I would not. Its not my place to say anything. If it was negative about someone else and I didn't care for it, I would suggest to the 'teller" that they talk with the person they were having the problem with and that it should just be between them.

I go by the assumption that anything mentioned in private between friends, stays private between them. Regardless of whether or not there is a request for keeping it a secret.

That doesn't ever change for me. By that I mean that if down the road the person becomes angry and we cease being friends, that assumed confidentiality remains intact, and I will still not say anything.

Yes, I am fully aware that I am weird. LOL Just been on the other side too many times. Even innocent comments can be used hurtfully.

My wife and I have NO secrets, but some things "stay in the family".

What so often happens is that some one tell it, but says "IT'S A SECRET!"

Then they feel unfairly used when the next person does the very same thing.

I live in a small town where everyone knows everything. It is a double edged sword.

Bad folks leave town in a huff, complaining of "gossip", but on the plus side, every one in Dresden can give me a good reference!

The Bible says "all your sins will be known", so straighten up and fly right! Even if you fool men, God knows all, and He is our judge, not we ourselves!

The real danger is gossip that exaggerates or enhanses to make the story more interesting.

"Don't make a mountain out of a mole hill."

Be good,
Michael

What I get told by friends STAYS between me and that friend. It is irrelevant as to whether or not it is a secret. I treat all information as a secret unless it would be dangerous to do so.

Yes, I wouldn't tell another person if it was a secret unless she said I could. It's a sign of good friendship and that you could be trusted.

Obviously you wouldnt say anything to anyone. She trusts you and thats why she told you what she did, no matter what even if its just a silly little thing you shouldnt tell people unless she says its okay to say something.

It depends on if its a privet matter, and as that persons friend, you should know. If its somting that could be endangering your friend or others, then its probley for the best that you talk to somone you trust about it.

I would use my own discretion, but I would endeavour not to discredit my friend.
