I guess I should add, the woman in question is having the first scan done on Tuesday but the doctor which done the blood test has said she is most likely 6 weeks. This is a little odd as her bump is quiet visible..

No not at 5 or 6 weeks. Bloating is a symptom of early pregnancy and may make it look as if a woman is showing. As far as how many weeks along she is and starts to show, that all depends on the womans body. A very thin woman may show earlier than a heavy woman. Based on my body type I always start to show around my 5th month. I would say that is about average for alot of women, but again it really all depends on the woman.

It's not normal to show at 5 or 6 weeks, but if it's a second or third pregnancy, or if the woman is carrying multiples, the tummy might not be perfectly flat at that time. But typically, it is about three months, as others have answered. If the pregnancy is causing bloating, hey, it could just be gas you're seeing this early!

It depends on the woman's body shape and how much she has been eating during the pregnancy. Usually she would start to show around 3 1/2 to 4 months.
Otherwise the pregnancy isn't "visible" except with an ultrasound exam.

some people claim they can tell, but at 5 and 6 weeks, thats when most women are going to the doctor and finding out there pregnant. As far as normal, it depends on how big the baby will be. You could not tell my wife was prego until 5-6 months

Every woman is different. It just depends on the body type.
I am very petite(5'1") and was only 97 lbs when I became pregnant with my daughter. I was on maternity clothes very early in my first trimester (6 weeks).
With my son, it was not as early but again around the middle of the first trimester. (8 weeks)
I have a friend that was wearing maternity clothes at 5 weeks.

Generally, no. I was pregnant with twins and my belly didn't show for a while....it's usually like 3-4 months I think before you get a little bump. But there are other symptoms. Dark areoles are a sign. Usually there is weight loss before weight gain. Hope this helps a little.
