-1/2 x + 1 = 7x - 14?

Thanks everyone for answering my questions. I don't understand how to multiply fractions.

(- 1 / 2 ) x + 1 = 7 x - 14
- x + 2 = 14 x - 28
30 = 15 x
x = 2

Supposing that you are solving for x, you would want to isolate the x on one side. To do that you would add 1/2x to each side
1 = 7 1/2 x - 14
then you would add 14 to each side (to further isolate 7 1/2x)
15 = 7 1/2 x
to find what x is you would then divide by 7 1/2 on each side. It leaves you the true value for x.
x = 15 / 7.5 = 2

Just for clarification purposes, when you are solving for x and moving things across the equal sign you would do the opposite action to the number (if the number is positive on one side and you want to move it to the other, you would subtract, if x is being divided by 3, you would multiply by three, etc.) x + 3 = 4 --> x = 4 - 3 = 1 {check (1)+3=4}
x / 18 = 2 --> x = 2 * 18 = 36 {check (36) / 18 = 2}

14+1=1/2x+7x

add like terms
15=7 1/2x or 7 1/2x=15

then solve for x by dividing both sides by 7 1/2

now plug 2 into your original problem to check your answer......

7(2)-14=0

If you don't understand how to multiply fractions, then turn them into decimals. This isn't multiplying fractions anyway, this is adding. turn the 1/2 into a .5 and go from there.
