My doctor suggested I take castor oil on the morning of my due date so I can go into labor on my due date. Has anyones doctor suggested anything like this to them?? Doesn't she seem to be rushing it a bit?

Dont do it...you will only be sorry.

Castor oil makes your bowels clean out..the cramps that are associated with diarrhea are what SOMETIMES cause labor to start.

It doesnt always work and you'll have a terrible case of diarrhea the entire time you are in labor if it does start.

Walking, sex and time are really the only ways to get labor to start when baby is ready. If baby isnt ready, none of those things will do it.

Glad you decided not to do it...yes it is rushing things.

It does seem a bit odd that your doc would be telling you to take castor oil. Especially since most people know that it brings on the craps (I tried it before and all I got was major poops plus overwhelming abdominal pain.) And the funny thing is, I didn't go into labor, I am still pregnant! It was really dumb of me to even consider taking the stuff because it made me so sick. Please don't put yourself in pain like I did. You are very smart for wanting to wait it out instead! Go with your instinct Mama and I hope you have a safe/happy delivery

Castor oil is like a laxative and will cause contractions in the same muscles used for delivery, but, if the baby is not ready then you will feel the labor without the birth.
I never heard of a doctor recommending this especially in this day & age. It is more of an older mid-wife thing.
I do know my mother did this and it worked, but Not recommended. (back in the 40's)

my dr said it was up to me to make the decision. he never said if it was bad or good. I took it on my due date (which was two days ago) and it threw me into false labor. I took it at 2 pm and by 7 i was contracting and by 11 i was in horrible pain. My contractions were 1-2 minutes apart at 2 am (12 hours later) and they were all in my back too, it was horrible. i thought for sure i was going to have my baby but the hospital discharged me becuase i wasnt dialated enough and yesterday the contractions went away completely. I guess my body just wasnt ready. Im kind of regretting doing it becuase they were horrible pains that i could barely stand and the nurse looked at the monitor at the peak of one of my contractions and said that was nothing compared to active labor....so now im afraid to go into real labor.

Glad to hear you're not going to do it! All it will do is give you a bad case of diarrhoea!
I think your doctor should revise his/her advice! A real old wives tale that one!

I have never heard of a doctor saying that, mine said never to do that. He said it really doesn't work, and it makes you very very sick, out both ends if you know what I mean.
