I really want this bag, but I would like the straps to be long so I can wear it across my chest. Should I just email the maker and ask if they will do it or would it be possible for me to do this myself? I know nothing about sewing or where to get straps like the ones on the bag. Can you please help me??? ^_^

they aren't going to make a bag just for YOU. either buy it as is, or find another bag.

The maker likely won't do it.
I would try to find someone in the family or friends' families who knows about sewing.
You could mail it to me and I'll do it for you.
