haven't had a silent minute in 12 years due to them.

Well, I do not consider myself "dyed in the wool" - whatever that is supposed to mean.
But actually, the only thing that is standing in my way (sometimes) is the prohibitive cost of my eductation... It doubled under the Bush/admin policies that were pushed through congress when there was a majority of Repubs.
People seem to think that there are plenty of "special" scholarships for me... because I am gay.
WRONG.
There is one (1) gay scholarship and I would have to be going to law school to have a chance at getting it.
But Conservatives routinely attack gays for wanting "special rights" like those that come with marriage and military service.
The audacity....
I can't tell you how awful it feels to work your a$$ off to pay the thousands of dollars it takes to sit next to kids who are driving hummers or getting a free education from the military and listening to them spout off in class about how "gays are ruining the world".

First of all can you further articulate on what you mean by "dreams". If you mean beleifs or goals, its not dependent on the entire catagory of liberals but on the individual liberal beleifs. There are many different forms of liberalism that some may support or oppose. For example my liberal beleifs are not to be completly anti-war but to only use war as a last resort measure when all forms of diplomacy fail. eg I believe Afghanistan had a just cause because we were attacked first but not Iraq. Other liberals may disagree. Some liberal dreams are already being acheived. For example Democrats are regaining majority in congress, the invention of the internet, scandles in government such as Jena are being exposed, the planned closure and relocation of Guantamo bay is in progress due to human rights violations, the successful petition against government "policeware" in computers, inreasing environmental awareness, and much more. We can't oppose each party to much, because we need opposing parties to keep America a democracy. So can you ask more specific questions on liberalism and I would be glad to answer. So I am glad that you show intrest in gaining perspective on the other side of politics because that shows that your very worldly and shows your very intelligent.

Do you think that we want pink unicorns? Or that beauty contest standby, world peace? Or a national Kumbaya songfest, complete with marijuana with a swingers party held afterward?
Not here.
I want every citizen to have access to opportunity based on ability. I want every man, woman and child to have access to the same healthcare based on their illness, not their insurance. I want education to go to those who qualify, not those who can pay for it.
Awful isn't it?
As to who gets in the way of that, its a three way tie.
Insurance companies looking to maximize profits on the sickbeds of babies.
Schools that take on the children of the rich to pay for buildings when those kids are idle and sometimes dumb.
Access to opportunity based on ability is denied by ourselves and our prejudices.
If you mean achieving a dream for mayself, all I am worried about is healthcare. I've lived the HMO nightmare, I've dealt with insurance company denial in the face of doctors determinations. I'm an older woman, married, I see so many misconceptions and so much ignorance as to how the system works now. I worry about whats going to happen when something happens to those who think they can go it alone.
I have everything I've ever dreamed of, a good, long happy marriage, kids grown and gone to college, they have good jobs and families of their own. We all own our own homes and cars, no excess credits cards or substance abuse problems. We are pretty ordinary people. We are all also Democrats. None of us could be described as Fundamentalist Christians either. We worked hard for our dreams, but that doesn't stop us from understanding that others must work harder and lending a hand won't break us.

Individuals approaching that "glass ceiling" know the answer and not all are given opportunity. The glass ceiling is not there just to prevent women from succeeding. It also gets applied to class, those not socially connected, those who didn't graduate from the same alma mater, etc. I once saw a manager who wouldn't hire any one who hadn't served in the Navy. It happens. - But that does not prevwent the one who didn't get the job from applying elsewhere. He is the one who sufferred from not hiring the best individual for the job. Those are fact, but in general, failure to do well is mainly the result of personal failure.

I have achieved my personal dreams. My dreams for America, however, seem to have taken a few steps backwards in recent years.
I dream of an America where people are judged and treated equally, regardless of religion, sexual orientation, skin color, or political affiliation.
I dream of an America where people are able to discuss issues rationallly rather than resort to knee-jerk reactionism and grade-school insults.
I dream of an America where the inherent rights afforded to us by the Constitution are not open for debate.
I dream of an America where "We the People", not corporate special interests, hold the power.
I dream of an America where the ideals of the Declaration of Independence where it states that all men are endowed with the "unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" actually mean something.
I dream of an America that is respected, not feared.
Are my dreams much different from yours?

From a conservative, the only honest answer they can give:
Themselves. Those who believe otherwise never will realize any dreams.

Simple really.
My (liberal) dream is that you care for me and mine as much as I care for you and yours.
Not too difficult to understand, is it?
