Best way to see whats happened - pull the deck off. Heres a link to your lawntractors parts list :http://jackssmallengines.com/help.cfm - type in your model number under 'model' section - it appears you have a 2002 model.
Your 'mandrel' or deck spindle assy part number is :1001200MA - if you need a blade :095100E701MA - if you need a pulley -494199MA. Most lawntractors sometimes have a small block that bolts to the end of the spindle assy - apparantly yours dosent ( its designed that way). To replace the mandrel , its probably in the $60 range , pulleys( if needed) are like $15 - if a new blade is needed ( buy a set- not just one) theyre usually around $10-20 ( depending if its a mulching blade - theyre more - i bot two for my Murray and they were like $18 a piece). Any tractor parts place should be able to get those parts - ive also seen them at Tractor supply.
While the deck is off, it probably would be a good time to clean it, check the other mandrel housings/berings- replace if needed.

The first thing that I would do is pull the mower deck off the tractor to asses the damage. All the parts are replaceable. Once you know what you need look on the Internet at places like outdoordistributors or jacks small engines for the parts. They will be way cheaper than going to Lowe's or a local repair shop. If you did break the mandrill it will cost between 50-75 dollars plus the blade.

take the deck off and take apart everything that you think is bad- if you have the confidence to do this it shouldn't be that hard- then go to where they sell your type of mower and show them what you need. you probably need a blade- shaft- and maybe a pully. the pully and shaft might be one peice. look at one of the others to see what is missing. you can do it! just remember how things come apart and put back the same. remember you have an example right there- 3 way cutting also get all new blades or it will be off balance and everything will shake and rattle- good luck

you could try looking up there site , on the web,
or go to your nearest Lowe's store, and order the parts,
replacing a blade isn't too hard,
its sounds like you messes up the bolts, that hold the blade in place , we can only guess, as we cant see the damage
but for the blade to have broken in two, suggests ,
you were speeding ? lol
you have al the info at hand , go to lowes,or the home depot, or your local lawmover supply

You can get this information from the MTD website. You will need a new blade and probably you have broken the mandrel as well.
