I'll be visiting Cuba in early October. I was wondering do I need to get a visit visa if I'm travelling on an American passport?

I will not be departing from North America. I live in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

OK, here's the answer. Since I'll be going to france first, the travel agency will arrange everything for 25 Euros.

The visa that you need is called a Tourist Card - it is a small piece of paper that you fill in yourself (similar to the landing card that some countries require). They cost about $20 - $30.

You can see an image here - (at the bottom) - http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g147275-c56814/Varadero:Cuba:Money.Tipping.And.Gifts.html

Most American gateways - Canada, Mexico, Bahamas - you can buy the tourist card in the airport. (Some Canadian airlines issue them on the planes).

If you are travelling direct from Europe, they may insist that you get one before you board (ask whoever sells your ticket).

If you do arrive in Cuba without one, it is supposed to be possible to buy one at the airport - but you may have a long delay finding the right person etc

Firs-table u can't,not legally ,the only way that u can go to Cuba legally is if u have an immediate family member and u were born there,u will need a Cuban passport.on the other hand i know a lot of people that go thru Canada is pretty safe ,Mexico or Venezuela can be other options.i was just there in march my mother still in Cuba and this was my first time after 12 years,i had the time of my life the people their warmth loving faces the music the rum the lovely breezes night are definitely unforgettable i love that country ,if u want to just relax drink and eat and be in good safe company and u have family there is definitely wost it,in the other hand the exchange sucks and to be honest they are a lot of other country's that offer a lot more for your money.i don't regret for a second my time in Cuba i listen to the music everyday and look at the wonderful memories of pictures that i have. I hope i was able to open yous eyes a bit. best luck la chmbellona cubana.

Passport Procedure - All foreigners intent on visiting Cuba must have a visa issued by the Cuban consulate in their respective country. The traveler can extend the issued visa in the main hotels, to stay on the Island beyond the period covered.

.If you are travelling from Canada you will get a tourist card from the airline or the travel company you booked through. There is no other visa. They take half the card upon arrival in Cuba and you turn in the other half upon departure.

Traveling to Cuba on an American passport is illegal no matter where you live. You will be in violation of the sanctions. Be prepared to have that vacation cost you an extra $10,000. That is what the penalty for violating the sanctions is.
