Do you really get the sarcastic sense of humour that some Brits possess?
Sometimes i don't really "get" American jokes but it seems to me that when i am slightly sarcastic, in a witty way with American friends, they really just don't understand.

No i watch American Shows and stuff but i mean real life jokes. And as for an example, like when Brits on here ask a question and they get Americans asking why they find it funny, when it is sarcasm.

Hey SHE....................guess what i can speak spanish and french at a competent level and i am also learning turkish at the moment.
I am not a puffed up stereotypical Brit at all.
I have just stated in the question that i sometimes don't get American humour. If i was sl**ging the Americans off i would have said so, but i happen to quite like most. Nor am i all that patriotic, so God may not have to save the Queen.
Sorry to put an end to your little rant there, but if i was really that up myself would i have even had to ask this question???

This question has been done a million times on here.
Yes, we get your sense of humor. It is funny. We understand irony, and we understand sarcasm.
The key is to try to limit the amount of ribbing that you give us in regards to our nationality, unless you know us really well, and we're sure it's a joke. Right now, ribbing on an American because they're American isn't going to get a lot of laughs from us, since we're pretty convinced that we're hated by everyone. So even if you're joking, let us know that you're joking, and then let us know again. Or just don't go that route to begin with. All other stuff, we'll get, and we'll think it's funny.
Although, just because we get your sense of humor, and you ours, doesn't mean that because we don't always laugh at your jokes, that we don't get it. Not all jokes are funny, in any country.

I only have one British friend. We seem to get each others sense of humor pretty well. It helps that he's a Simpsons fan and I grew up watching Monty Python, Fawlty Towers and The Young Ones.

why does it bother you so much...is it just because people dont laugh so much at your wit?...
my sweetheart is american and for the most part we understand each others humour...sometimes we dont laugh at the same things...sometimes we do...its just called being different...do you find indian humour the same as yours?...or spanish?...or german?...if not, why not? you puffed out stereotypical colonial Brit...why should everyone understand us?...you are like all those people that live in spain for 20 years and never learn to speak spanish but get annoyed if they dont speak english...stop expecting so much...not everyone has to understand or appreciate the british humour you know...

The only thing that confuses me about "sarcasm", at least on this site, is that somebody will make a derogatory remark and then will simply say it "sarcasm," but jokes are there for a reason. Maybe, we all have too much pride.

I think there's a culture difference as far as humor goes no matter where you are. When I watch British comedy shows sometimes, they're funny but I don't ALWAYS get them! I totally understand if it's the same for you with our humor.

well since you're actually addressing americans, yes... i do get the sarcastic sense of humour that some britons possess. but you do have to realise that there is a language difference as well as some cultural differences to consider. does it make britons better than americans or vice versa? no... and bob's your uncle.

its true that americans have a totally different sense of humour to we british. i remember americans asking me once how we can make jokes out of such terrible things as wars and i really beleive its the british way to laugh at awful things to try and make the best of it.
it's just our differences, its not good or bad.

Your problem is Sarcasm relies to a degree on the play on words and their different meanings if you are using it to someone who uses the words but with different interpretations then they are not going to understand how those words are funny in the context you are using them
