I was thinking, I am so tired of having to lock my car and make sure all the windows up, and was longing for those days when we didn't have to do it. I think our freedom is slowly being taken away because of crime.

Of course, now people have those gadgets that do it now. But I don't.

yes i remember it well
i used to do it all the time up until about 1992 when some jerk stole my stereo out of my car along with all of my cassettes.
my car only had an am radio in it so i scrimped and saved to buy an am/fm with cassette player and ws so proud of it. they stole it while my car was parked in my driveway.
now i lock my car everywhere i go even if i'm only going to be gone a few minutes.
what a pity - this is a small town - about 5500 and you have to lock your doors, windows, everything. you don't even dare to leave your windows wide open at night. we have the stops that prevent your window from being opened more than a few inches and we use those, but you can't get much air in through there. on the upstairs windows, we leave them open wide because they would have to have a really tall ladder to get to them.

I live in a city on the east coast where the population is reaching 500,000 (just ONE of the connected cities of 4) and I ALWAYS leave my van unlocked and, depending on the weather, my windows open. My VAN is a 1993 Plymouth Voyager with 203,000+ miles on it. If you've seen the Chrysler products of that year, you'd have noticed how the paint peels off the hood and top. That's mine. Who would want to steal it? And there's nothing inside worth stealing and the radio doesn't work. My co-workers make fun of me bout not locking it up when I DO drive it to work. One day one of the ladies was late for work. Seems her husband went out, started her Excursion, locked it up and went back in while it warmed up and she finished getting ready. They heard glass break, tires squeeling and when they came out, the Excrusion was gone. They found it the next day with only the window broken. To replace the window, it was less than their insurance deduction so they had to pay for it out of their pocket. That will never happen to me. The doors are always unlocked and who would want to steal my van anyway?
Do you know what CAR ALARMS are good for? ANNOYING YOUR NEIGHBORS when it goes off. When was the last time someone called the cops because a car alarm was going off, or your car really was being stolen/tampered with?
We live near a Naval Air Station and those FA-18's really are loud. Neighbor behind me finally disconnected his alarm because when those jets would fly over, his alarm would go off! hahahaha I ride with a motocycle group (Patriot Guard Riders), and we fired up in a parking lot one day (about 40 of us) and all the cars that had alarms went off!

Yes. In the 50's we could go on a two week vacation and leave the house unlocked. Now I can't go next door without being concerned about it.

My daughter had her vehicle broken into extra beneficial than as quickly as. THe insurance guy stated she could have been better off to have permit her vehicle unlocked. do not depart something on your vehicle that a thief would desire to have an interest in. that incorporates books, backpacks, bags, to not point out CD's. insurance would not cover the shortcoming of CD's.

I am glad you don't know where I live as I leave my house door unlocked. I do have a huge St. Bernard inside. I don't have that gadget either.

I still do that. I see many people at our little local store leave their vehicles running and unlocked while they run inside for a minute. I've even been known to leave my house unlocked when going to the store for a minute.

I lived in San Francisco, and we never even locked our front doors. Alas, sad state of reality has now set in. And we all have to try to protect what is ours, and what we have worked so hard to have, while someone who does not also have that mindset, now wants to take it away from us.

Sure, I remember when the population of the US was exactly one half of what it was now, and we could actually expect people to act like civilized beings. (1950's)

I also remember the scientists warning what overpopulation would do to the world, but even to this very day, when their dire predictions have come true, people just pooh, pooh them.
