Everybody seems to be assuming that I'm on the Dole. I'm not. It's just a strange rumour that I heard and I wondered if there was any truth to it.

Ok niggle76, you got me. I am on the dole but I am genuinely trying to find work but being alky f uck-up doesn't seem to high on employers lists of desirable qualities. However, I do have an interview to actually work for the DWP on tuesday. Wish me luck, you condemnatory, supercilious c0cksuckers!

It's a bit of both the truth and urban myth.

If you are truly alcoholic you would need to be declared as such by your GP or other medical practitioner.

At this stage you would qualify for Incapacity Benefit and eventually possibly even Disability Living Allowance depending on any subsequent health problems you acquire, such as Sclerosis, Pancreatitis, Epilepsy, Throat and or Mouth Cancer etc.

Both of these later payments are greater than Job Seekers Allowance but certainly not £10 per day and it's a pretty extreme way to get an extra few quid a week.

I am not going to tell you to get a Job because you have never said you were unemployed or for that matter had a drink problem.

I hope this answers your question.

No.
If you claim to be an Alcoholic then you would get disability allowance.

You would, however, have to prove to medical personnel that you have a drink problem.

They are very hard to con, and if you are found out you will face criminal charges.
The least of which would be Fraudulent Benefit Claim.

Try getting out and finding a job instead, there are vacancies around.

Do you mean an alcoholic in recovery? I woudnt mind an extra 10 pound for transport to go to AA meetings. If active alcoholics get an extra 10 pound to buy strong lager/cider,its not fair, I didnt get this when I was drinking!

Firecat is right. If that was true everyone would be on the dole wanting the extra money

Knowing the state of this country its possibly true. The minister of health wants you to get p*ssed on decent lager. Its better for your liver than 8 ace in a brown paper bag.

It's an urban myth. It's been around a long time, but it's never been true.

David B, I think you'll find this is how an urban myth is spread!
