Religion is a defense mechanism. Reality is to much for us.?

My defense mechanisms are so deep within me that I don't even know that they are defense mechanisms. I see them as the truth. They guild me. The real world is too much for me to handle. I believe in god because it's a great defense mechanism. It keeps me sane.

Reality may be too much for you, but it's not too much for "us". There are people who don't have a religion, and there are people who don't view reality as being "too much," to be included in your "us". I personally don't see reality as being "too much," and I still believe in a pantheistic God.

A belief in a higher being relates to the "big sleep"--death. And along with that, it also answers the question of "what's the meaning of life". So it is a defense mechanism.

Defense mechanisms can be disarmed, it just takes practice. You have to learn how to take the world in stride. To believe in a GOD or such is fine. Because as humans we have to explain everything with something, even if the explanation is unbelievable.
