When they return home to visit their families between tours, why did you vote to deny them the same length of time at home as they spent on a tour of duty?

Another Republican mouthpiece on the radio was ranting how war is sacrifice, and therefore the American troops must be willing to make sacrifices in order to win this war ...

So apparently it's not enough to leave your family and travel half way across the world many months .... to a strange, inhospitable land ... and face many, many unseen dangers that could kill or dismember you .... that's NOT enough sacrifice for our dear little Republican friends in Congress .... They insist on denying these troop adequate time with their families between tours.

Voting against this fair bill, which had overwhelming support of military families, is just one more reason why the republican party will be out of power for a good 40 years, or more, after the '08 elections.

Support the troops, my ****!

In Vietnam, it was one year of duty...13 months for Marines, then you never had to go back to 'Nam again...unless you volunteered, or were special forces.

These continual extended tours of duty are ruining our military.

Now there is talk of increasing tours from 15 months to 18 months!

Think this is helping our military?!

Bush and the republicans voted down this bill because they would not have enough troops to fight in Iraq, without increasing taxes and implementing the draft.

They'd rather see things continue until after the elections, leaving their mess for the next administration.

meanwhile our soldiers continue to die so Bush's corporate butt buddies can rake in the profits.

Disgusting.

And yes, I'm a veteran, and I support the troops, unlike you hypocritical republicans...based on petreaus' own Field manual, we need 650,000 troops in Iraq!!!!

Bush and the republicans are not trying to win this war...they simply want profits and more blood from our soldiers.

Wake up America!

well, even after it was made clear that there were not enough troops on the ground to win in Iraq the Repubs didn't institute a draft to fight their war for Big Oil. they knew it would be so unpopular the American people would be in the streets protesting so they rather just keep recycling the same battered and weary troops back into the war zone. this is how they show their "support for the troops". that and the yellow ribbon bumper sticker on their SUV.

PS. tho you'll see the gungho soldiers standing behind GW applauding in his photo ops you'll not hear much from those soldiers who are feeling misused and abused by their government. soldiers aren't allowed to complain and they risk punishment if they do. and you don't see any flag draped coffins either, even tho Military cemeteries are filling up with our war dead.

The first four answers are from vets. I also am a veteran. Number one thing a vet will tell you is that you have no idea what you are talking about, especially if you have not been there. You get the news that the media want you to see. Please don't try to say the media isn't biased one way or another either. While I wish this conflict was over and that the troops could come home, I will leave that matter in the hands of the men and women that are fighting the battles and their assessment of said battles. For who knows better than the men and women that give blood, sweat, and tears, meanwhile you sit at home in your cozy chair, typing on your computer second guessing them. This war has cost much in the terms of lives, limbs, and dollars yet these men and women give willingly.

It is well & good for some of these answeres to say they are Iraq war vets & are for the war, & don't mind going back, etc. But where's the proof? Anyone here can lay claim to anything.
How do we know they're not just paid GOP lackies?

no. Our soldiers are nothing more than pawns in an evil political game between the Dems and Reps in Congress.

If more than one Congressman had a child in the Army at the time Bush proposed going into Iraq, I doubt Congress would have allowed him to send our troops there.

There are Congressmen whose children have gone into the Army SINCE we invaded Iraq, but at the time of the voting there was only one.

To all our Troops, I would like to say THANK YOU for your Service to our Great Country, and yes I'm a Republican. It makes me sick that the Liberal Democrats are hiding behind our Brave Service Men and Women, while they are spewing their Propaganda and Lies. I would be willing to bet that the large majority of Liberal Loonies have never served in the Military.

It seem that they have only one goal above everything else , winning a war , that never should have been , at any cost and our troops are expendable . I don't think even seeing more death and injuries will help them change their minds

It doesn't bother them as long as their kids/grandchildren don't have to fight. Just look at the big strong healthy Romney boys for example and Mitt is running for President !

Heck ! The Bush girls are well in the legal age group and there are many brave women fighting over there. Why don't they step up to the plate?

It's too bad military soldiers don't get more "online time" to respectfully answer your question 'en mass' so you can gather their point of view instead of from the nanny liberals sitting in the comfort of their own home attempting to continually put your words in their mouths.

Pathetic.

My answer is a simple salute to 'scubadog' by giving his fine impressions.

The entire situation is ludicrous. I never cease to be amazed by the unbelievably stupid and clueless right. I can't imagine being such a lousy human being.
