Hi Clashing Twilight,
There's a saying: it takes all sorts to make this world and I just 'switch off' when I see or hear of these people who thrive on their fame (and seem quite conceited with it) because quite frankly they are just like you and me. The 'pretenders' who desperately seek acclaim and attention ... well there's just something inside them that makes them feel they aren't anyone if they aren't someone and they have to be famous to be someone. Sad isn't it. It is the unsung heroes we should be proud of and those who don't let their popularity go to their head. I have every respect for the so-called famous (as we could ask: what is fame) who are modest, unassuming and down to earth.

Definitely. It must make them feel a bit empty inside and I bet it's somewhat connected to alcohol/drug abuse. They need a way to turn off the internal voice saying "this isn't you."

I'm also puzzled why some folks are willing to shell out cash to read about them. What the heck is the criteria for fame? It makes no sense even why being an actor or professional athlete = fame. Maybe it says something about all of us.

Like the people who claim that they earned medals from the military that they didn't. The recent article in the news about phony Medal of Honor winners makes me ponder, what rock did these people climb out from under. When the exact numbers of recipients are known, and their heroism written about numerous times, why would they think they could pull it off.

Great thing about stupid people, they will eventually do something stupid and trip themselves up.
