Why are you generalizing and assuming everyone in Jena is a racist? Isn't that racist? People need to open their eyes and see the truth instead of seeing colors. One of the six students who beat one student had four previous convictions for *violent offenses* on his juvenile record prior to this occurence. Wouldn't it be a travesty if this career criminal, who has yet to finish high school, were allowed to simply walk away with no punishment whatsoever for this atrocious violent crime just because of his skin color? What does that teach our society?

This whole situation bothers me. None of the actions that took place in Jena are excusable, but when the media and protestors compare a non-violent act to a violent act and want the same treatment for the violent act, I think that there is something very wrong with that. The students that hung the nooses did get suspended, which I think is a fair punishment for a NON-VIOLENT act. I don't blame the 6 kids for retaliating, but when its 6 to 1 and they put another person in the hospitol, whether he came out the same day or not, its still a VIOLENT crime and needs harsher punishment. I definately don't think that they should have been charged with attempted manslaughter but they do need a punishment to fit the crime. I don't care that its two different races, its still two different types of actions that deserve two different kinds of punishment. Also if you hate racists, then maybe you should try not using racial slurs. Every race is racist against another race. Its not like whites are the only ones who are racist. But of course they get treated that way. If you think the opposite from these two FACTS, then you are oblivious to the whole world and you need to stop being so naive

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070922/ap_on_re_us/a_place_called_jena;_ylt=Aj3MeV_lNz_yDNYScl4exrhH2ocA Check the news superstar, it was all a joke. The media had a slow news day and made half the story up. The nooses were actually not a big deal to African American student there, whites and black were playing together as friends on them. Theres more about what a joke it all was in the article above (from yahoo) but I have to talk about them being charged: Yes they were charged with attempted murder: this is because people are expected to bargain down to a lesser charge. The only reason any of these went to trial is because Al Shaprton convinced the kids they wouldnt spend a day in jail. If justice was allowed to play out it would have eventually been reduced to a lesser charge, and they would probably have received no jail time, except the kid with the criminal record, he might have. If people understood how the justice system worked they would understand that that first charge is almost never the final charge. The only reason it ever went to trial was because black leaders convinced these kids that they did nothing wrong.

Personally, they all deserve more severe punishments. And may I emphasize the word "all". If everyone was punished properly initially then the incident might not have escalated further however, this is no reason to continue in the way they did. Because someone else is in the wrong does not give you the right to wrong them.
The whites don't want the blacks around. The blacks want to be around because they are denied the right. If they initially had been accepted to hang out there, then I don't think they would want to be there so badly. (you want what you can't have) This situation would be the same no matter which race is on which side from my speculation. This is just my deductions from the information I have obtained about the incident. Talking about the incident just raises further questions like "Why was the black guy at the white-only party anyway?" That is like walking down town in a big city, blind folded, with your hands tied behind your back and bits of your dollar bills already slightly sticking out of your pocket.
This small racial tension was blown out of proportion. If you think this is bad, you have never been to a place called the California education system.
Let me tell you a story. My little brother was in gym class one day. He set a lolipop (present for his birthday) down on the bench while he changed and a hispanic kid stole the lolipop from him during this time. He caught the kid with the sucker and got into a big argument with him, they decided to fight during our lunch break. I knew about the appointed fight two periods before lunch because word travels fast.
When lunch time came around the whole school was divided into two. Nobody knew what the two original squabblers were fighting about but everyone was there to support their friends, even if it meant a complete race verse race fight. Even I who thought the whole thing was stupid was there by my brother's side because it's my duty to protect my little brother. With all the blacks and the whites on one side and the browns on the other (hispanics are a majority in Ca.) I was surprised when one of the head honchos from the hispanic side stepped up like a real man and made them squash the petty incident.
It's not like this would've been the first or the last complete race verse race school war at this particular high school (Almost every fight turned into a race verse race fight as long as the two squabblers were different races. Pathetic, I know.) but it would've been over the lamest reason ever.
Enrollment demographics at the school I'm talking about:
Student Body Demographics:
44.2% Hispanic,
37.7% White,
9.9% Black,
3.7% Other
Total student enrollment = 2, 315

I can't stand radicals that must turn everything into generalities with which to slam whole groups of people. Jena obviously has a problem. A large part of the problem is the DA who overcharged some thugs. Another part of the problem is the educational establishment that allowed the "tree segregation" to go on. No part of a campus that is available to some students should be restricted from others. Young people tend to congregate in cliques and clans. The problem arises when the so called adults running the establishment permit these groups to become insensitive to others. In the end, while the community of Jena may not be racist, there are racists there and the problem is compounded by the insensitivity of the community.

You all know the Jena 6 story, but what you will evidently not hear in the news, is that yesterday here in the city of Norfolk VA, seven black high school aged kids beat a 13 year old white male randomly walking down the street while it was video taped. The local TV news (Wavy 10) got hold of the video and played it sunday night, but there is NO mention of it anywhere today. Wavy 10 has the video posted, but no story. Was this listed as a hate crime? Uh.... no. Was this listed as a race crime? Uh.... no. It was listed as "gang violence." Double standard? I am thinking so.

Well heres how I see it, ONE african american boys could attack ONE caucaian and this wouldn't have happened, INSTEAD they had to knock the boy unconcious and then kick him and abuse him.
UMMMMM>.. wait that 6 to 1 right? Thats like a gang thing.
Unfortunately 6 going after one is attempted murder because otherwise it would have been ONE or TWO not SIX.
All the other incidences should also have had things put against the people, but also, unless you know why he pulled the shotgun and why the bottle was broken then you really cant say things werent done properly for that.
In situations of recism and tension, the one with the gun was a good example two african americans and one caucasian, well who says the caucasian wasn't in fear for his life.
But the JENA 6 deserve all ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES and to be charged with HATE CRIMES.

Fact: The beating was 3 months after the tree incident.
Fact: The victim of the beating had nothing to do with the tree incident.
Fact: Bell was on probation for assaulting another person.
Fact: The Jena 6 are criminals.
Fact: The only racial part of this is about a mob of blacks attacking an innocent white kid.

I can't stand racists especially black ones. These boys beat a fellow student until he was hospitalized. They need some form of punishment. However I also believe that the white students who started all the BS need to be punished as well. Then maybe the country can move on and start to heal itself.

What if things were reversed. What if 6 white students beat one black student to near death. Civil rights activists would still be protesting in Jena, the only difference is the signs they hold would say "SEND THE JENA 6 TO JAIL FOR LIFE"
