I want to know what your reasons are for supporting or not supporting Ron Paul? And telling me that he's a loonatic or a nutjob will not suffice, I want real reasons like if your political position is different from his and how?

I'll start: I support Ron Paul and will vote for him for President in 2008. I like that he supports our 2nd Amendment rights, is against the North American Union (which I believe is an attack on our national sovereignty), is against domestic spying programs and legislation such as the Patriot Act that gives the government permission to invade our privacy, and wants to make our money worth something again by backing it with gold, silver, etc.

I welcome all different opinions and political perspectives. Please do not insult anyone for their political beliefs!

1. Wants to get out of Iraq, voted against it from the beginning (related to #2 below).
2. Supports the Constitution 100% of the time, stands true to his convictions...has never "flip-flopped" like other candidates, and rightly so.
3. Will attempt to abolish the income tax (related to #2).
4. Wants to return our liberties (also related to #2).
5. Border security.
6. NOT in support of gov't sponsored healthcare.
...not in support of federal gov't sponsored anything (except what's granted in the constitution)...la de dah...
He's pretty much the perfect candidate because he believes in liberty...for real.
Anyone else would either continue this mess of a war, institute universal healthcare (paid for through taxes, whether you use it or not), allow amnesty, raise taxes, pretty much trample our freedom. Hey, maybe all of the above...? Hillary?

Some idiots above are why this country is in such a mess in the first place. I hope you people enjoy what little freedom you have now, because it's being slowly chipped away. Buy a gun now while you can. Oh, and Ron Paul is a REAL conservative. The "top-tier" candidates in both parties aren't very different.

As far as issues go, I back him mainly for the following:

- Ending the Iraq War.
- Opposing globalization(ish) efforts (NAU, UN involvement, etc.)
- Removing the PATRIOT Act and other things that have infringed upon our liberties.
- Stopping the coming doom of our economy.
- Downsizing much of the federal government.
- It seems that he is pro-small-business (no more subsidies for huge corporations).

As for who he is, I like:

- His record is virtually flawless.
- The fact that he is so opposed to taxes, that he had his kids go to college without loans and he's never taken a raise/bonus.
- The fact that he is usually to-the-point with his speeches and he can answer debate questions within the little time he is given without breaking a sweat.
- That he doesn't sugarcoat things.
- His stance on racism. Enough with this collective "diversity" crap, it does little good and it's racist!
- He'll discuss proposed legislation in the capital, even if he's the only one.
- He has lots of experience in politics and economics.
- He is uniting all sorts of people - the young, the old, democrats, republicans, capitalists, socialists, activists, etc. which is just beautiful.

Of course, I guess I should be self-conscious, since being anti-war, anti-tax, anti-everything-wrong-with this country somehow makes me a "moron" and a "lunatic", according to the uninformed lemmings.

We must get this man in office. If he doesn't, it'll be because we didn't do enough. Register for the primaries now and get involved with a meetup.com group! If he doesn't win them, then he can become the first write-in president!

In reply to Fast Eddie B - you are exactly what is wrong with America and specifically the voting process. You have already that with a year remaining before the election Ron Paul has no chance of winning. Why do you think this?Because the media isn't covering him? Or do you only support those that are "winners"?YOu are such a loser, only voting for the "popular" candidates rather than the ones with substance who might actually represent your interests better. You probably ask all your friends who they are voting for and cast your votes that way, rather than, wow, read articles, the internet, books, watch programs other than headline news on Fox. C'mon man, use your own brain.

Yes, Ron Paul is not the media favorite. But he is articulate, he doesn't have handlers around telling him to answer questions and what to say or what not to say, and he is a little bit on the edge, different. And, unlike ALL THE OTHER REPUBICANS and most Democrats, he wants to get out of Iraq.

I support him and would love to see him make it to the White House.

He's not a tool of either party and doesn't put the needs of the party ahead of the country. For the past nearly 16 years the White House has been the defacto HQ for either the Democrats or the Republicans. That nonsense needs to stop.

The parties are the real problem in our politics right now.

Ron Paul would also restore sanity to our foreign policy and to our fiscal policies. The Constitution is the blueprint and he knows how to read that blueprint...unlike the current prez.

We all talk endlessly about change and then when the chance comes for real change...we do a 180 and vote for the same kinds of candidates every 4 years.

Ron Paul represents real change and a move forward to the kind of America we all say we believe in.

So prove it...vote for change...real change.

I support Ron Paul.. Why? He is anti-war, wants to lower taxes for the middle class and poor, voted no against the Patriot Act, voted no against the amendment banning gay marriages. He believes the United States should have a non-interventionist foreign policy where we trade and negotiate with other countries instead of fighting useless wars where so many innocent people die. He wants to drastically reduce the debt the United States is in and restore our country to the democracy it once was. Finally we have a voice for the people.. one that isn't backed by corporations and lobbyists.. but by the people.. Ron Paul is a man of his word.. just check his track record.. He knows where he stands on the issues, unlike other candidates whose stances seem to change from week to week.. I truly believe he can boost the morale of this country and restore a democracy for the people not just for the elite...

Paul is a man with principles, Beside him, most of the Republicans look like charlatans, and the Democrats who are allowed on television and in the New York Times look like spineless cowards. They look like spineless cowards not because they favor peace (they don't), but because they refuse to stand up to Bush and Cheney. Paul stands up to Bush and Cheney. NOTHING is more powerful than that in today's politics, and he does it. . And if we had the courage of our convictions we would put everything we have into backing him.

I want to support Ron Paul because I also swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution. Ron Paul is the only candidate that means what he says.

the person who answered first obviously just votes the way the media tells him to vote, he doesn't have his own opinion, lol.

Anyway, Ron Paul has my vote because he's the only politician that can be trusted, he hasn't flip-flopped on ANYTHING, he doesn't tell one group of people one thing and then tell another group something different.

Unfortunately I can't vote for him in the primaries because I'm a registered democrat. And I'll tell you the truth of the matter, Ron Paul is the ONLY republican that can beat the democrats. Or do you really think Guliani can beat Hillary or Obama, yeah, right.

The biggest reason of all? Common sense. And if he's not appealing to the conservative base, then i would say that i would question them as to whether or not they are truly conservative or not. As for my opinion on Dr. Paul, i do believe i've made that quite self evident.

Not democracy dear. But the "Republic" it was originally designed to be. Will it work in today's society? I believe it would.
Other than that(jessisbeautiful), you're right on target.
