Get a set of welders vice grips and careful set them so they lock just touching the glass.
Release them and take away from the window and lock again.
Measure the gap and you will have you answer.

Hmmm interesting question. One way to do it would be if you have a camera with a macro lens. This would all be done from one side of the window.

1. Put a dot on the outside of the window and another on the inside of the window.

2. Set the camera up on a tripod. Set the lense aperture fully open .

2. Focus the camera on the inside dot ,and mark the position on your lens focus ring.

3,. Do the same for the outside dot.

4.. Now mount the camera on a tripod and set the focus ring to one of the marks.

5. Move the camera forward and back from any object (say a mark or light switch on a wall) to get it in focus and measure the distance from the lens to the object.

6. Set the focus ring to the second focus ring mark, change the camera position to get the object back in focus and measure again.

7. Take the difference between the two measurements and voila, there is your double-glazing thickness !

Another method that might work is, again all from the same side of the window, focus a laser measuring gadget on a piece of paper tape to the outside of the window, then focus it on a piece of paper taped to the inside of the window, then take the difference of the two measurements.

This all assumes that we are dealing with a fixed window (cannot be opened) and that there is not access to measure the width of the edge of the frame.

in the UK there is no fixed size ...but in wooden windows it is normally 4-6 -4....or 4 -10 -4 ..the first figure and last is the glass thickness and the middle figure is the spacing bar in between ..in upvc windows it is usually 4 -14 -4 .or 4 -20 -4 all sizes in mm ...if you open the window ..make a template in cardboard ..in the shape of the letter u .so it fits tight on the framework ....slip this over frame far enough to be able to measure inside of u to glass ..measure gap on both sides ..then measure width between inside of u...take away from this the first two measurements ..and the figure left should be the thickness of your units

if your talking about the glass unit try this
1)take a straight edge(ruler etc.)place it against one side of window frame measure gap between ruler and glass
2)repeat on other side of window(inside&outside not right and left)then measure frame width and this should give you the measurement.
frame - gap one - gap two =glazed unit good luck

have a look between the two panes of glass, holding a tape measure in your hand. you can approx. gauge the distance..
try it.......
most glass now is 6mm, some smaller panes may be 4mm..
the most important measurement is the gap between the two panes....

would like to help but not certain
i always thought it was 10/15mm
i also thought the glass was the 6mm not 4mm

if i find out more will let you know
in the meantime this is just my guess

It's not written down, but you should be able to tell by looking at it. The chances are you've got 2 sheets of glass separated by a strip of aluminium 1.2 mm wide.
