You ask about the family of Philosophy. Philosophy has as itself its Mother and Father, and no other parent beside itself. Philosophy gives birth to all the subjects of academic study, even while it is still giving birth to itself. For the Mother of Philosophy, Philosophy is still a child in the process of being born. Meta-Philosophy is the Philosophy of Philosophy and both the Mother and the Father of Philosophy. As the Mother of Philosophy, meta-Philosophy suffers an endless labour to a child who itself is in labour giving births and rebirths to its children.

Philosophy is the ultimate Mother and Father of all subjects of logical study. Only Philosophy can give birth to subjects of logical study, for it provides the arguments and reasoning for the acceptance of academic subjects, and persuasively answers why certain types of study are logically appropriate. All subjects of logical study have philosophical foundations, which consist of principles and values, to guide their pursuit of knowledge. Philosophy provides the rationale for why particular types of approaches and methods are appropriate for the pursuit of certain types of knowledge. As the Father of subjects of logical study, Philosophy has thus far worked in the office of patriarchy, and its androcentric value bias has interfered with the accuracy of its epistemological recommendations. While its Mother tries to compensate for the biases of its Father, Philosophy itself cannot be born. Philosophy is still forming in its Mother's Womb. And, Philosophy will not be fully born until the Time that the Mother and Father of Philosophy have joined in androgynous conception of the Truth, Knowledge, Beauty, Good, and Wisdom of their Child.

Philosophy is more than its own Mother and Father. Philosophy IS the God of Knowledge, for it is an immortal without a birth and without a death, which gives birth to all pursuits of knowledge, and also brings them to their death, and their rebirth. Wherever Rationality lacks, Philosophy cannot be born, and wherever, there is Rationality, Philosophy cannot die. Wherever there is Logic, Philosophy resides.

That is to say, IF science is the daughter of philosophy.

Philosophy is what takes place in areas of the world (and our lives and minds) that science can't do anything with. Science can't prove or disprove things like morals and ethics, although it can tell you how the sun was made and why magnets work. Philosophy can't prove anything either, philosophy relays more on the thought and the consideration than the end result, unlike science which seeks only the end result.

I think a better re-phrasing of the statement would be that Science and Philosophy are brothers, while Curiosity and Wonderment are the parents

This question is fun. One can go down all kinds of rabbit trails on this one.

1. Biblical. The author of wisdom apart from the knowledge of God is Satan, hence Satan is the father of philosophy and science his granddaughter. Ha!

2. Philosophical. The desire for wisdom is the father of the love of wisdom.

3. Of Job. Suffering is the father of philosophy and science his granddaughter.

Oh well, I could chase this one for awhile, but onward to more practical things for the day.

Hey ho, Maggie

I would say it is the other way around; science is both parents but in different moments different. If necessity is the mother of invention then the father is wisdom of experience as perceptions remembered. Philosophy is the doctor that corrects procreative error and counsels all. In reality they are a unity that creates moment of self.

The Will is positive, the Judgment is negative.

In one sense the father is God Himself for He is the final word.

In another sense wisdom is the fruit of knowledge and philosophy. Science is another way of saying knowledge.

But, enlightenment is the fruit of wisdom and knowledge.

The power of intelligence needed for intellectual and philosophical discrimination is coming from God. Again, God is the father.

The process is either descending or ascending. We can accept knowledge being handed down from God on faith and that is descending knowledge. Ascending means that we are ascending the ladder of understanding with the final rung the understaning of God.

In the beginning there is the acquisition of knowledge which is above utilization of the senses for sense gratifications. As we acquire knowledge we can sometimes ascertain that this is scientific knowledge. Wisdom is the organization of knowledge. Through wisdom and knowledge we can achieve enlightenment.

Philosophy is the mother; she is the one who gives birth to sciences. The universe is the father; it fertilizes our brain bringing about lots of questions about life.

Yes, science is the daughter of philosophy. I would have to say that Socrates is the father, because before him there was no real concept of rational argument. The Socratic method is the father of the scientific method. that is not accepting something till you know it has been proved true.

Experimentation.

It takes the theoretical into the real. Without experiments, science IS philosophy.
