becasue -2^6 means -(2x2x2x2x2x2)
(-2)^6 means -2x-2x-2x-2x-2x-2

-2^6=64 because the exponent is only attached to the 2
(-2)^6=64 the exponent is attached to everything inside ( )
-2^6=64 is -(2x2x2x2x2x2x)=64
(-2)=-64 is -2 x -2 x-2 x-2 -2x -2= 64

For the first number the negation applies to the answer. If it were writen more clearly it would be -(2^6) so when 2^6 is evaluated it becomes 64 and then the minus sign is applied.

For the second number the parentheses start a negative number raised to an even power. Any number (positive or negative) raised to an even numbered power (like ^6) will be positive.

because the negative sign on the first one doesnt affect the 2 unless they both are in parenthesis. so.... 2x2x2x2x2x2=64, but you have to give the 64 a negative sign, so it's -64. In the second one, it's (-2)x(-2)x(-2)x(-2)x(-2)x(-2) = 4x4x4 = 16x4 = 64

because -2^6 means -[2*2*2*2*2*2] which would equate to -64. However, (-2)^6 means (-2)*(-2)*(-2)*(-2)*(-2)*(-2) which is equal to 64

in the first equation you only take 2^6 and then plug the negative in in the second equation -2 is one number and a negitative times a negative is positive

if it has the parantheses on in, the exponent is being applied to the whole number meaning it includes the negative.
but without it, the exponent only applies to 2, so it would be
-1 x (2^6)
making the answer negative.

This appears to be a case of a naughty parenthesis and a flickering minus sign.
