Troy really existed. It's in modern day Turkey. Schliemann (spelling?) found the site in the early 1900s I believe. The story with the horse and all that, probably not, but it is a good story.

According to Greek history, Troy was a real place. But, according to quite a few scholars today, Schliemann did not find the real Troy. If you take all the variables and sailing times and the weather and such into consideration, the Troy that was found could not have been the Troy that was depicted in all the histories.

The city of Troy really existed and its ruins have been discovered.
Also the battles are real, even if we can't be certain they were as Homer described them...
