For people who are very sensitive, gullible, and get hurt easily. How can they create defense mechanisms? It's in the subconscious?

At the start, it's a way of protecting the person, cutting them off from overwhelming emotional distress.

It becomes a problem if it's used too often, which is why victims of child abuse often have repressed memories or lash out. People gain a dependence on the defense mechanisms, and if they so much as get called a name will switch them on.

Every psychological disorder that there is, is present to a smaller degree in "normal" human beings; it's just that, for the afflicted, it's amplified.

Why do you ask this question? Hum... Do you think that I'm being defensive? ... I know what you're really thinking... I'm being defensive and it's all the bad kind of defensive, not the good kind.

Am I right? You think that I'm being defensive and its subconscious. You think that... I don't even have control of being defensive because it's all subconsious.

But I'm not being defensive. I'm really not and I resent the fact that you might think that I'm being defensive. In fact, I'm sure that you are the one who is being defensive.

Here's the real deal:

when people are sensitive they typically hurt others before getting hurt.
when people are gullible, they mistrust everyone.
when people are easily hurt, they love no one so they don't have to be hurt.
