I used to be a nail biter as well, and i know that once you get a habit of it its hard to stop but next time you bite your nais consider these true facts:
1: Your nails are made up of dead skin cells!! So basically thats what you are biting on!!
2: by biting your nails licking up as much bacteria as if you were to lick a toilet seat!!!

Try getting a manicure!! Those with the french white tips, that way your nails will look to pretty to bite!!
If your nails are tooo short for that try just painting them a nice colour!!

When I bit my nails they all broke really easily because they were so thin, if this is your case too then you could try bying some nail strengthening nail pollish.

Another tip is to bye nail polish which tastes disgusting, there is special nail polish which is supposed to get u 2 stop biting just because it tastes so bad!!

Good Luck!!

A. Unless you want to go the hypnosis route, which some people swear by, you do have a couple options other than sheer willpower. One is to apply the very disgusting (and therefore, highly successful) nail biting cream like Control It!), which you paint onto your nails. It tastes so bitter you won’t dare bite them. A new product on the market which doesn't taste any better, but is definitely worth trying is Jessica 'Nibble No More,' a no-nail-biting polish with bitter cactus extract as its secret ingredient ($5 at jessicacosmetics.com).

Another option is to keep your nails painted. My friend Lisa swears a pricey manicure keeps her biting at bay & she suggests the brighter the color the better.

You have to go buy some nail polish remover. Then soak your fingers in the nail polish remover for about 2 minutes and then whenever you try to bite your nails. It wont taste to good so it will stop you from biting your nails. Also when your nail chips of splits, just carry a small nail clipper or a nail filer with you at all times. Also you can buy some nail strenthening nail polish. It will stop your nails from splitting and chipping.

There are little bottles of very very bitter-tasting stuff that you paint on your nails, like nail polish. Every time one of those fingertips wanders into your mouth it wont stay there long enough for you to do any nail biting, guaranteed lol. Find it in the pharmacy section at Wal-Marts, or your local Pharmacy.

to stop the splinting= use sally henson hard as nails
for the biting there are many things you can do......
1. paint them, keep them painted. nail polish isnt tasty
2. research what kind of bacteria are in nails (gross but it will keep you from biting them)
3. try getting yourself a manicure every once in a while...that way you wont want to mess up your pretty nails =]

the way I broke my habit was when I had braces. haha the brackets prevented me from biting them =]

good luck!

I know for my personal experince that what you need to do is pay the $30 and get your nails done professionally. Keep having them done every two weeks for atleast a total of 6 weeks. Then have them taken off and buy hardern for your nails. This will work!

Splitting can be sign of Vit K & calcium deficiency. Make sure you're eating healthily, especially fresh green veg.

Stop biting by painting with a proprietary nasty taste (ie one that won't poison you).

I agree with the other answers. Try chewing gum or taffy also to distract from the urge to bite your nails.

To stop biting but some nasty stuff you dislike on your nail.So when ever you try to bite them you will sniff it & back up due to the odor from the stuff on you nails.

You could buy a nail kit from Rite Aid that uses fiberglass glue to make you nails really strong and prevent breakage.
