In the video you see the flag flying, but there is no atmosphere, no air, no wind, so how could the flag be flying, it would sit straight down the pole.

I do not THINK the astronauts went to the moon, I know it to be true, and so do millions of other intelligent, rational, THINKING human beings. Heck, even the Soviets, our mortal enemies, admit that we made it, beating them severely in the race. All the other nations of the world with the technical wherewithal to track the moon flights also congratulated us on our stunning success, even if they hated us.

The flag is not "flying" on the poles, it is supported by a horizontal metal rod in a sleeve across the top of the flag, which is **easy** to see if you bother to actually LOOK at the flippin' pictures. NASA knew that the flag would hang limply in the near vacuum of the lunar surface, and designed the support rod to make the flag more photogenic. DUH!!

The only time the flag moves in the video is when the astronauts are physically in contact with the flagpole, such as when they're planting it in the ground and shaking it to sink it deeper into the regiolith. After that, inertia keeps it moving for a few moments, and then it stops dead. And don't bother trying to tell me that you can see it waving in a still photo.

Instead of listening to the anti-American conspiracy theory nutjobs, why not take a look at some other sites, such as:

www.badastronomy.com
www.clavius.org

which utterly debunk all the consiracy theory nonsense.

Firstly the flag had a horizontal bar attached to it at the top. This was done so that the flag would stand out from the flagpole. NASA appreciated that there would be no wind on the moon, so any normal flag would just hang limply and unattractively down the pole. To make things look better they added a bar that stood out at 90 degrees from the pole. The flag was really hanging from this, rather than from the pole. The bar was also not quite the full width of the flag, so that it was slightly furled to give a 'wave look' to it.

I'm an Australian and no great admirer of some of what the USA does or some of the stuff I see posted by some of it's people on the net (I could say the same thing about some Australians too). But this is their great achievement (so far) and we have to congratulate them. Great stuff, you guys.

If the Moon landings in 1969 and later had been faked thousands of scientists and radio experts around the world would have known straight away. Specially the Russians, but also Germans, French, Spanish, Australians, British, you name it. It is fairly certain that the Russians radar tracked the Apollo spacecraft part of the way to the Moon. They did not say "Fake!" Other countries might have done the same. Not all the scientists or engineers in the world are US residents or citizens.

Not everyone who worked on Apollo was a US citizen either, I know one Australian who was in on it and there were many more. Most of the staff of the ground stations in Australia were Australians, there were also ground stations in Spain. If the missions were fakes, how is it that these non-US citizens have kept quiet for 35 - 38 years? How come there have been no deathbed confessions?

Almost anyone who was good with tools and had a bit of money could build a suitable antenna and tune a suitable radio into the transmissions from the Moon. There is nothing secret about the construction of such antennas, I have a book on it right here.

The astronauts brought back hundreds of pounds of Moon rocks which were analysed by scientists all over the world. Not all of them were US citizens either. If those rocks had been faked those scientists would have seen it. In any case, the Russians also returned Moon rocks to Earth in three unmanned probes and published the analysis results. The American samples were consistent with the Russian ones.

The Apollo program came to an end because the US public lost interest, when that happened, funding dried up and NASA could not afford to send any more. And even in 1968, before Apollo 11, President Nixon, a Republican, began de-funding NASA. The Apollo Program was a Democrat initiative. The missions went ahead because the equipment had been built and the money had mostly been spent.

This site is devoted to the mostly Australian men and women at the Honeysuckle Creek tracking station in Australia which received some of the Apollo transmissions. You can hear one man talking directly to the astronauts on the Moon.

The stuff about the flag is utter garbage. It didn't wave, it wobbled. It didn't droop becuse it was held up by a rod. For gawd's sake THINK!

The main promoter of these lies has been caught altering the soundtrack of one of the later missions to make it look like a hoax. He has also been harassing Apollo astronauts for years. Hanging is too good for him. He need to be placed in a pillory in Houston or Cape Canaveral where the population can pelt him with rotten fruit or anything else that comes to hand. He is an utter slime ball who has been trying to dirty the reputations of real heroes for years.

The was a wire in the flag! as you described the flag would flop around the pole (the people in NASA would have thought about this don't you think) and not show the world this iconic, great photo opportunity, best public relations stunt America has performed to full potential.

Also the Russians would have published there observations, if they suspected a hoax.

Also the amount of people who would have needed to keep the secret is astonishing, surly somebody would have mentioned something, but maybe that's were this conspiracy theory came from ex-technicians/ NASA personnel getting drunk and blabbing, who knows, but I think they went for what its worth.

You will notice in the video footage the flag doesn't wave. It is ramrod straight. That is because there are metal rods along the flags top and bottom lengths. This debate will probably never end but yes NASA successfully landed men on the moon. The reason we did it was as much about one upping the USSR as it was about scientific exploration. The reason we have not been back is because the is nothing of enough value to warrant the expense.

The American flag on the moon had support wires around it and in the fabric to support it and give the impression that it was "flying". It would have looked a bit limp without this.

I don't believe they, did.

1. Flag was flying (no atmosphere)
2. Wires making them jump around.
3. Their shadows were facing the wrong way.

Enough said...

OMG, i'm sick of seeing these retarded questions on Y answers,YES THEY DID GO TO THE MOON. Try getting tens of thousands of people to cover up something like saying your going and not actually going. For the love of god it is so much easier to actually put a man on the moon than it is to keep a secret as big as that!!!!!!!!!

It was the height of the cold war for gods sake, the russians were watching them every step of the way, don't you think they might have said "actually they never got there". Russia had already put the first man in space, just think of the humiliation they could dish out if the Americans didn't get to the moon first. Not to mention it was watched live on TV by half the planet.

The flag was flapping because it wasn't being held perfectly still, and there was a rod in it to keep it from falling down all the way.

The Russians were monitoring everything, and they would have called foul if they hadn't believed the moon landing really happened, but they acknowledged it happened.

Of course they did. This is historical fact, backed up by hundreds of hours of video, thousands of witnesses, tons of moon rocks. Do a little research before asking a question like this! The silly thing about the flag is answered here EVERY DAY!
