i have a persian shield plant was reading on it what is root basal how do you do a softwood stem cutting and what in the world is bottom heat please let me know if anyone can help i dont really understand

Root basal? Not many scientists can agree on what or even if they exist, shouldn't affect your project. Softwood stem as it relates to your Persian Shield would be a 4-5"cutting of a stem dipped in rooting compound and stuck into sterile potting mix, vermiculite or perlite. Bottom heat can be provided by a special heating mat or just put it on the fridge. In the spring I put a 150watt bulb under the table I use for sprouting and cuttings. RScott

Take a cutting, strip off lower leaves, plunk in clear container of water. Same procedure, dip in rootone, put in potting soil. Bottom heat is just that, a heat source from beneath the plant.
