Flowers, numbers, text, portraits, names, dates, birthdays, racial slurs, things with faces (faeries, anime characters, Disney characters), skin rips, city or country names, diamonds and stars.
For the most part all of those designs look great on paper. The lines pop, the colors pop and suddenly it looks doable. Human skin does not react the way a piece of paper does. Lines get blurred, hands can't quite be steady, person can't sit still, too much blood, allergic reaction, pregnancy and a number of other things affect how a tattoo will look. This applies mainly to the characters, flowers, and text tattoos.
Dates never ever come out spaced right. Names are just taboo. It's the first rule of having a tattoo.
With portrait tattoos it really comes across that one man's vision is another man's contacts. The result never looks like the person in the picture. Skin rips, stars and diamonds have been done ad nauseum; no one cares where you're from. Racial slurs are instant job stoppers.

I had a tattoo of a very popular character and his wolf from a 1970's comic book tattood on my right thigh. I was very thin then, and it took spanned from the very top of my knee to my pelvic bone. It was very tastefully done and quite attractive. But, I got it almost twenty years ago when tattoo's were not nearly as popular - and almost everywhere I went I got unwanted attention. I couldn't wear bathing suits / shorts / skirts / etc without men thinking I must be a wildcat and girls staring me up and down with judgement. What a mistake that tattoo was. I eventually got it removed. After $10,000.00 I can look in the mirror and not even see any remnants of it. My answer? Don't ever ever ever get a tattoo. If you like something that much you can talk about it. Why paint your body with it? It's just stupid. I have the right to say that. I've been on both ends. *4U!

I've done my research and I never heard of anyone ever getting a SS number tattoo. People who were in the concentration camps in Europe did have numbers on them but that was to identify them in the camps.
I don't think tattoos are proper because they identify you, put "the mark" on you, abuse the body, and immediately makes you suspect where the police are concerned, and of course employers in large companies won't hire you. But I would think any tattoo with a bf or gf name on it would be bad to do.

I've always heard it was bad luck to tattoo a loved one such as a boyfriend, girlfriends name on. I believe that is true, everyone I know that has a name tattooed on them is no longer with that person anymore. If you want to tattoo names, then stick to Mom & your childrens names instead. :)

I've had friends express interest in getting:
- A flaming foot on the top of his hand.
- "Merry Christmas 1979" on his Bicep.
One's I've seen:
- A really large & fantastic looking, shiny chrome blender.
- A Tomato blimp -- like the Good Year blimp, but it was a tomato.
- A hissing cat's head surrounded by sparkles and floating bits of Meow Mix.
- Chi-Tonw. That's a popular one in Chicago. People get it in support of a popular tattoo artist who is being sued for f-ing up somebody's "Chi-Town" tattoo. I say if you're already getting a tattoo that says "Chi-Town", it doesn't matter if it's messed up.
- The name of a gambling website on your forehead (I got suspended last time I answered with the actual name of the website).

Try a small Japanese tattoo with their names on it simple and unique. If you do not like that get a tat with several shades and designs in put their names inside and it is like a cool college.

Everything is not a good idea to me. I think tattoos are ugly. Sorry. My opinion.

My ex wife found out that tattooing my name over her heart wasn't such a good idea. She now has to search exclusively for men with a name of "Phillip" to go out with.
